  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New DJI Ronin M

He can mention any gear gimbal he wants- I Personally Find It Interesting.

I agree about the height comment.

Tested the Ronin and had the same thought.

Didnt get a chance to test upside down mode.

Lost too much time getting it to balance.

The way we had the misc gear attached to hr bar made it impossible to just turn upside down.

Are all shots being made this way (standard mode)?

How about upside down mode, is that a b*tch to hold like that?

I can see it working standard but at upside down the handles (grip) are also upside down thus leaving you with no hr bar to stop from letting go.

What I always see in all the Ronin and other brands pictures are shots I can not relate to: way too low angle shots and people putting up their arms in order to get a slightly higher angle....to me it has been just obvious from the start that Helix is the way to go. I own the Jr and use it with my Epic at eye level, elbows tight on my ribs for longer takes

Pretty much every single "traditional" gimbal can operate in up-side-down mode (amongst others), which allows you to bring the camera to eye level while you hold your arms low and relaxed. There are plenty of pictures and videos showing this - not sure where are you looking, just visit the Ronin's official sites...

True Peter but my question is how your holding the grip.

It shows the grip part upside down as well which scares me since there is no horizontal bar stopping you from dropping one/both sides.

I dont have much experience on the Ronin/Movi types so bare with me.

Not much stopping you from dropping a Letus than either if you wanna get technical.

From my experience albeit limited, the bar in the center of the grip acts like a safety net from my perspective.

But if you want to get technical then yes you can drop pretty well anything if you dont pay attention.

But I found the Helix (even the Double) and its need to be close to your body a bit more comfortable.

We will have the Ronin on set for a three week shoot so we will get the chance to test the upside down mode.

Ronin-M test footage showing up on YouTube. Haven't seen any others worth sharing besides this one yet. Seen a few who bought it for their GoPro even. smh =)

Again, another example: the natural way to hold these gimbals produces shots that are at waistline. Not saying it can't be held higher, but I don't like the idea of being forced to shoot low by my gear and my Helix certainly does not.

Trying to see if it's feasible to use this for a minimal Dragon setup:

Dragon brain only: 5 LBS
Side SSD module for 1.8 REDmag: weight?
1.8" REDmag: weight?
Prime stills lens: 1-2 lbs

What's the preferred battery solution for mounting ABs on the unit?

It's been done. I'm pretty sure the method for power was LIPO 4S batteries if I remember correctly.

Jeffrey, to answer your previous question, I'm powering mine through a Lemo power cable provided by Letus. Brings down the weight

Hi Enrique

have you got a picture of your set up

so you are powering the camera from the dji ronin M battery is that correct?

many thanks

suresh

Ive asked this many times in other posts.

I am still curious how everyone flies these with EZ Rigs and Steadicams.

Ive seen a few clips but really need to hear and see some detailed BTS,

No, I was answering Jeffrey about how I power my Epic from my Helix Letus Jr, which BTW is an awesome piece of equipment

No problems balancing an Epic on it? Motors can handle very quick moves?

This is what I'm curious about as well. The Helix Jr is supposed to be able to support up to 15 lbs but I haven't seen any usable footage from the stuff people have posted online. Every time I've asked for examples it's met with silence.
