  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New DJI Ronin M

this may have been covered but i have been trying to get an answer as to why the ronin's are not able to invert the camera in upright mode?

any ideas?

@Zeb, I see you're ready for round 2. I'll start by saying this thread doesn't belong to me but it clearly is titled Ronin-M, therefore the topic should be about the Ronin-M, its capabilities, and how it can benefit the good people on Reduser. Please take the product you endorse to the necessary thread.

To everybody else that's curious about the Ronin-M including @TimMorris, I'm here to answer any and all of your questions to the best of my ability. To start, during NAB, Clyde from Red was indeed waking around NAB South Hall carrying a Red Weapon with the new Ronin-M. Specs says 8 pounds, but we've pushed it to 10.

At the DJI booth, we had a Red Dragon on a Ronin-M mounted on an RC Car owned by Ron Hernandez from HostileRC able to travel 55+ MPH.

Using a side plate would benefit those who own a regular DJI Ronin, but if you want to power the Red, you need an external 4-cell battery for now. When I say for now, I'm not promising an immediate solution, but it means we are working on something to benefit the Red Users.

Hi Willis
the Ronin-M really looks like the perfect tool for longer shots better weight & right price ?

- Any news on availability & price ?
- Does the camera have to be up side down in upright mode ?
- Will it be possible to power everything with a V-mount maybe clipped to the operator's belt ...?
- Or will the Ronin-M power Epic & accessories with one batt ?

Official price should be available in the next few days since its scheduled to release at the beginning of May.

Lets play this game again.
The 1st person that guess the exact price of the MSRP in U.S. Dollars of the new DJI Ronin-M will win a DJI Crew T-Shirt.

one guess per member.

the camera will be upside down when inverted, you can mount your camera upside down so when inverted it's right side up.

To my knowledge, the Ronin-M can handle an external battery solution as long as the cables arent super stiff.

Currently, DJI doesn't have a battery that powers the Ronin & Camera together. Our team strives to deliver the highest quality experience for the users, all feedback are listened to, hope to have a solution soon.

thanks willis

its a real shame about the inverted mode and current power solution, i hope you fix these both soon,

but it looks like a great product and at a great price, well done

Looks like we just announced the price, low price of $1,399.
Guessing game closed for now, I'll be giving away a crew shirt for something else soon enough. Thanks!

Thanks Willis

Good job on this new product and great price too !!

Specs still say 8 pounds, do you confirm 10 pounds as mentioned earlier ?
Or will that be in some sort of upgrade later on : firmware / hardware ?

bummer for the upright mode :(

Guys, I think you are misunderstanding about the upside-down mode. The Ronin-M will do this just as the Ronin does. What Willis was saying is that when you invert, the camera will naturally be upside-down as well. This is physics. What we are recommending is that if you are going on any particular day shooting mostly in the upside-down mode - you may want to consider mounting your camera upside-down to begin with, as it would then be the right way up when you go inverted. I don't see any reasons to be disappointed about this...

hey peter ,some of the other manufactures are able to invert the camera, it speeds things up on set not having to re mount and is basically more versatile, does seem odd that the movi and ronni are of the few that can't, is it really that hard to do?

don't get me wrong, i ordered mine this morning:) can't wait to get it!!!

but would be so so amazing if it:

1. corrected orientation in upright mode
2. had a method of powering both camera and gimbal via a vlock or AB with a belt clip for example

There are physical limits on the tilt and roll axis preventing this. I know some manufacturers use sliprings to allow full 360 unrestricted rotation in all three axis. But sliprings are not the magic bullet people think they are - they bring their own set of issue and reliability problems when it comes to larger payloads. DJI has clearly mastered the sliprings on their smaller Zenmuse Z15 gimbals, so it's not like they can't do it. There are technical reasons why they have chosen not to. Ditto for Freefly...

You don't have to remount the camera - just flip the image...
Most monitors can now do this independently of the camera as well...

Wow! That price is great! I'm going to wait to see exactly what kit will work to power the Scarlet, and the best way to get focusing on the rig to be controlled by a single operator. (I know there's the MicrRemote from RedRock, but is that the best option?)

I may have to get a Switchblade to control the cam, as I only have a SmallHD AC7 with SideHandle, but that's just part of the package, and this is still cheap with that in consideration!

hi willis i know you said you will be coming up with a better solution for powering a red epic or scarlet while using a ronin can you give us any information what that might be? and what type of time frame you are thinking?

this likes an amazing device at an amazing price but we need to be able to power the camera for me ideally of the rig via a battery clip ( V mount)

not that you need to worry about sales at the price a solution sooner rather than later would be very appreciated

many thanks
