  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Camera called Craft?

There is a university open source from years ago too, frankinstien camera or something like that. Axiom should have approached them to combine efforts, as they would have students being trained in how to do this involved.

Good isn't it. Maybe its called "Spacy, me spacy to sell cameras"

American Indians were allegedly beguiled by fake jewerely, but the reality of VR has also been rather different than expected. Unless you use computer VR, filming is often a 360 degree fisheye or other system.

Honestly - what kind of bullshit non-sequitur is that ?

I'm sure it's intoxicating to find your own writing overly clever, but this is just horseshit.

Ouch, Dan. That's a little harsh. I just put Wayne on my ignore list a couple months back and Reduser's been much less confusing ever since.

Now that wasn't very well written,. Unfortunately I woke on sleeping tablet after 4 hours and it's stuffed up my ordering.

Anyway, it is well known that unscrupulous people traded land for fake jewerally, glass beads. The myth is that it is portrayed with the recipients allegedly awe struck accepting such.

VR is another thing that looks "wow" great that has been promised for decades but turned out as financially productive as fake jewerly most of the time. It's a warning. Games have potential when done cheap enough, productive uses, augmented reality. My very old augmented design mechanics of the 1990's are just coming through in recent years from other people catching up. The MS augmented idea sounds very familiar to something I was proposing whennin contact with a vr parts manufacturer. I'll have to review my correspondence.

However, filming VR has been around for a while, and to be more than simple guided 3D you need to film surround like ominmax, or use computer generated graphics, so people can look around.

Anyway, it's obvious that it is an ill fit for Jim starting craft to do so with these present cameras.

I think you should put both yourselves of your own ignore lists and you may find life even less confusing (seriously). Don't blame the messenger on a lack of ability to be intelligent enough to think clearly about straight forward statements of the past. So stop being so self centeredly in love with yourselves and get over it.

A few things, as I'm usually not fond of being dragged out of the lair to deal with such things.

The craft camera started as an audrino board interfaced to a camera sensor board in a cardboard case. What is shown in the website is definetly nolonger cardboard, and they used to say HD and 4k cameras this year under $1k (but am unsure if this is one or both types of camera. If it is the latest nvidia chip it should be rather hefty in performance.

The first "Craft Camera" that you are referencing Wayne was created by individuals several countries away that have nothing to do with this newer Craft camera.

This current Craft camera was founded by Scott Bragg and are based out of Georgia.

Second. Yes, VR and Augmented Reality have been explored before. Commercial viability, adoption rate, and success are major unknowns as it's still the wild west. However, the biggest difference in the post 2010 incarnation of goggle-tech is computer hardware as well as graphics hardware have drastically improved. This has greatly inspired many to explore it as a new medium and for those who have made this trip around the spherical world once or twice before it also has forced many leading companies to look harder at the potential found within. While a warning is lovely, in terms of what times are now and the potential much of this reveals, we're still listening to the low hum of the drum roll that leads up to the big bang.

Thanks Phil for your graciousness, that sounds nice.

My mere point is that all that glitters is not gold, and that apart from my carefully balanced choices I've given, it is a bit dubious and this camera is not really offering much more. It was in response to the idea that Jim is behind this camera for VR, weighing it up. VR could have been a big thing 20 even 30 years ago, I have 3 vrtual game boys for research purposes. I was going to convert them to color and do a HD small laser projector from them. My designs went past them quickly. The private eye technology they were based on was not needed, and Atari was to release color sets after. It was probably possible to do some sort of vr going back early last century if you knew what you were doing.

But uptill using the cheap mobile phone as a display the promise has been killed by under delivering and over pricing. A leading VR exhibition games group here wanted me to come in as a coder in the 1990's on that wave. But the resolution was very low and the fov very low, the last one a killer, to have leading revolution sets cover 1/9th+ of a user's vision. Having a surround low resolution set would have been great.

So those computer and guided vr tours I've been advocating here are great, but as for other video/cinema projects it gets less useful. It really needs a lot more to push those sides forward, otherwise you are running a 360 degree camera around again. What to do next to get something into the real cinema area. I don't remember If I've come up with much past mapping the whole screen volumetrically and camera array techniques. There is the stage wide lens system (reflector lens type etc). But unless the viewer is going to just sit and look around, like omnimax, how does the user get in and through the scene to look around while not loading the action, and how do you record that. Those are other things past the old things.

I imagine my shock getting out of bed and coming here. No need for anybody to be woken early, things would still be here in the morning to look at.

I've just seen this new program that pretty much explains everything:

Adam Ruins Everything. Pretty cool dude, my sort of guy Just watching the CSI.episode:

a keen sense of what is appropriate, tasteful, or aesthetically pleasing; taste; discrimination.

Yep sounds like it.

Tact is the ability to induce change or communicate hurtful information without offending through the use of consideration, compassion, kindness and reason.

Sounds right.

You can call me tackily tact if you like.

So, last week I was trying to find the pages and plans for the original craft camera. They seemed to be pulled about the time this craft camera with the same case styling turned up last year. I girget where ever they had same/similar website name. Maybe the Americans are rolling this on from the original effort. Would love to find out if Jim is behind this. Might take a short trip to see if I can find out. To me it doesn't matter too much, except it makes it more desirable, but it is the exploration of the truth. It matters more to me where ever it is a sound investment for Jim's sake. I forget, but maybe it is. The craft camera is step in the right direction, so is the mini (once the 4k flaws are worked out and it is upgraded in latitude a global 4kp50 in future). A 4k pocket or POV beneath craft would finally make a good upper low-end range of 4k cameras.

Someone needs to put this in the quote thread (wherever it is)!
