  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Blade Lights! Group Buy!!

The new BladeLight Manual can be downloaded at this LINK
We will be emailing it those who have already received their lights next week, but I wanted to give anyone a chance here to get it in advance of that.
(There will be an updated manual after NAB)

Hmmm... what's with the site requiring 10MB of storage space on my computer?? I don't need a RapidGator account, I just want the PDF.

haha..honestly...don't think a manual is necessary. Simple on off and dimmer switch. Lens slides right in the slot. Easy peasy

When you guys receive these it would be nice to know what kind of output you would compare these lights to. Or if anyone already has an opinion about it.

Here's a quick and dirty review I did: https://vimeo.com/156046829

In terms of output...these things are CRAZY bright. The 36" is equivalent to a 1K and the 18" 500W, but it still feels brighter than that. You can't really even look at the source at full power without some sort of diffusion or dimming it down.

Hey Terry, sorry I didn't know Rapidgator would make people make an account for a 10mb file I thought it allowed free downloading - I threw it up in my DropBox account here at this LINK

Thanks Kyle for getting that fixed

I was just curious about any information that might be in the manual.

Kyle: Thanks for getting that fixed. I always find "free" services that force you to create an account to be a little annoying.

Hey guys, I shot an artsy interview with the 36" blade on Saturday and I think the light performed very well. The quality of light feels great- It's like a Kino but with the controllability of a fresnel. I can see myself using this light often. Here's a quick picture of the setup, a screenshot of the footage, and a small clip so you can see how controllable the light is with the barn doors...

Weapon CF, 6K WS, F2.8, 500 ISO, fixture was probably at 50% output.

My 18s just arrived.

First impressions:

Way heavier than expected (not a bad thing, good build quality)
Light CRI / color quality is amazing. Very clear/clean light - haven't shot a histogram yet, but very excited about this!
Holy cow they are bright at full power
The light shapability is very good - Very excited about this
18 is small enough to "top mount" and aim down at the subject at a 45 and have lots of movability without the fixture running into the stand.

Glad you're happy Matt. Told you guys these suckers were bright.

Any ideas for storage/ Transport Solutions???

Dont quote me on this, but I think they are working on some sort of case. During the interim, I'm just using one of those pelican weapon type cases. You'll want to have them in a good case, especially if travels lot. My light case (ones with the Blade lights) was the only cSe fully examined by TSA - I think it's bc they are built solid and tough to see through. Haha

My 18s came with a soft zipper case. The case has a velcro bungie inside that can secure the light to the bottom of the soft case. I didn't expect the case so it was a nice bonus - however there is nowhere to put the power ballast and gels inside the case without risking scratches to either the gels or the light, so plan for that I suppose.

I did some light tests today with the old Pallet GOBO and without. Both area a single 18" flolight with the beam angle set to 20. The one without the pallet is barned down to only allowing maybe 1/2" of space between the barn doors at the end.

Both shots have an LED ring light above and in front of the subject. It was a cloudy day in the Pacific NW with a window in the room. Not a lot of ambient light but not pure darkness.

Note my WB is all over the place as I was testing looks - it is a clean daylight light, and I haven't noticed a color spike yet. I would guess fairly accurate between 5400-5600.

Hey Chris -

Just noticed the future bluetooth control app - has blade mentioned anything to you about offering that to the group buyers when it's ready?
