  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K

Hm ... EF to EF speed booster- lets invent new physics with negative space haha....just like anti matter but in space, easy peasy

What are you on about? This guy is a legitimate speedbooster manufacturer and has produced speedboosters for all of the Ursa Mini cameras (4K, 4.6K, Pro, etc.)

You can see how it installs on youtube, but there is a tube that sits inside blackmagic's EF mount that screws out and you can switch it for one fitted with glass.

OK IT would be pretty hard to produce EF to EF speed booster since you need to substract about 4mm of space. Ursas have removable mount. BMPCC6K- not so much

Ursa Mini 4K and 4.6K do not have removable mount and they works fine. But we will wait and see if the pocket 6K is the same. The UMP version I believe replaces the whole adapter.

Exactly - I rest my case. Adapter = mount

You are right though. I believe the magicbooster rests against the sensor and removes the front glass elements. Then what they do is put an IR cut on top of the magicbooster, and in the case of the Ursa Mini Pro they use a thinner, custom one.

Thank God for physics. Otherwise we'd be pi$$ing wonders and $hitting miracles here ;-) at least on the forum haha

Last one….probably

How can you have 6K without the over heating issues? I was told the reason they wouldn't go 4K is because of heat the sensor needs or cause... Hmm All that resolution in a plastic camera?

Squzeme, I ain't got nothing to do with physics, it's all devilry! I only deal in wonders and miracles, thankyouverymuch!
And where's that newton thing when you need one...pufff

I have the "magic booster" for the original 4.6k Ursa Mini and tested with impressively sharp from edge to edge (comparing with my stills Sony a7rIII). It almost covers full frame. The Speedbooster lens replaces the screw in baffle and you need to remove the IR filter and mount that onto the outside of the booster housing to make up the clearance.

The BMPCC6k looks as if it has a very similar screw out baffle as the earlier ursa minis.

I also have the G2 with the new adaptor based speed booster. He uses a different speedbooster element for this. This sits further away from the sensor and has it own IR filter and you still need to remove the G2 IR filter for clearance.
Its a lot easier to mount than the first type.
This has been very sharp as well, actually a bit too sharp for my liking (I don't like the uber crisp 4.6k look anyway). This booster give pretty much exact full frame cover- I couldn't tell the difference between this and shooting a still framee from my a7rIII.

So I am not sure sure of the physic impossiblitrioes you have been writing about. The speedbooster is giving me a full frame camera that can shoot 120fps at 4.6k (which is overkill for me as every TVC I have shot has asked for 1080 deliverables) at a base iso of over 1600 (haven't tested super accurately, but I know it give more than a stop of extra light), and shoots a beautiful image IMO similar to what I have been shooting stills , and can match campaign images and video work very closely.

I seen a 6K pocket with speedbooster on the web someplace and according to those that made it / tested it it works great. Its like a optical plug that sits in the "sensor cavity" so the EF mount and flange remains intact as I understand. Makes sense as there is so much EF glas that covers FF its a bit of waste for such small sensor. All in in all I think if such booster works as well as the other metabones boosters for the old BM pocket then this shit will rip.

Think BM should have made a booster to go with it but possibly they want to protect the bigger more costly cameras. But to me that sort of strategy and market differentiation is pretty much always for the worse. Better to make each product as good as it possibly can be.

If that were true

It is true.

You are oversimplifying.

the Sony F5 would live a happy life along the FS7 that can be had for less than half its price. But it's all but gone today
Reasons?

A bunch.

None of which are related to the motion imaging camera with body perpendicular to scene, made for the market segment

which needs this type of education.

It really doesn't make sense.
Again, for a speed booster to work and the lens focus to infinity some back focus space needs to be removed. If they can take out the mount and make it thinner somehow that may work. But that's a lot of effort on fixed mount camera. Especially low priced one.

Who told you what and when ?

FPGA technology and power consumption has been slowly and steadily improving, sensor technology and power consumption has been slowly and steadily improving...

Body isn’t simple “plastic” per se, but carbon fiber doped/reinforced polycarbonate.

If you’re reflecting on DSLR / mirrorless Camera manufacturers, it’s because up until fairly recently most of them were protecting their higher end product lines, or not willing to invest in the development process further for the feature set motion people like us want.

The pocket 4K/6K both have a pretty decent sized heat sink and fan combo in there too, which wouldn’t normally be part of DSLR /mirrorless territory.

It has bigger intake inputs for the cooling and it's not a plastic it's carbon reinforced plastic like the RED CF camera's.

I guess the lucadapter guy is pretty smart.

The Lucadapters page has exceeded 1.000 Likes!!
To celebrate this result together, I anticipate that I will soon accept the pre-orders for the Magicbooster 6K.
Thank you!

No question about that. He is very smart. I suppose he could stick a glass block in it and gain some space back but.... I wouldn't. Besides- who needs FF if you already have so many wonderful options in S35 cine lenses having been around for a century? Oh wait you don't- this camera is EF only ....;-)

You are aware that there are a number of PL to EF adapters out there, aren't you?

Yes and relatively few lenses work with these due to very limited clearance of +/-7mm max
