  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K

The tilt-screen and M.2 SSD mod is pretty snazzy. I don't know if I'd go to the trouble of doing it, but someone could certainly make good money selling modded 6Ks. I think I'd just go for the tilt-screen and skip the M.2 SSD in favor of removable/external media and since you can get M.2 USB housings to use with the camera, it's just easier and more practical to go that route.

At Meteorstr. in Berlin, directly beside the highway A111, you get a perfect view onto the landing planes on RWY 26R and the up lining planes for takeoff on RWY 26L.

We shot this video completely in 6K RAW (2.40:1 - 12:1 compression) with the brand new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K and edited it with the plugin BRAW Studio in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Filmed handheld on BMPCC 6K (BRAW / 8:1) with Canon 24-105mm f4. Color graded in Davinci Resolve by just adding contrast and saturation. Banding in sky is likely due to compression.

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K vs Panasonic S1H 6K

I believe

Pocket 6k-Left
Panasonic S1H-Right

By Sittipong Kongtong

I just had a hands on testing the BMPCC6K comparing to Panasonic S1H.
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K I shot in 6K BRAW 8:1 with project framrate 25P and some shot off speed at 6K BRAW 50fps
Panasonic S1H I shot at maximum resolution at 5.8K h.265 V-Log 25P 10bit 4:2:0 200mbps.The S1H was using latest firmware at the day I tested.

For BMPCC6K I used Sigma 17-7- F2.8-4 with KANI Variable ND
For Panasonic S1H I used Sigma 12-24 F4.5-5.6 and Sigma 45mm F2.8 with KANI Variable ND.

Some shots of I used my lovely LOMO Art PETZVAL for both cameras. This lens is my most favorite lens.

I brought all those original footage into DaVinci Resolve Studio 16.1 beta2. I just had very little touch on Lift,Gamma, Gain, Contrast and Saturation. And little try to match both camera in a very simple way.

The most advantage of the BMPCC6K is BRAW internal recording. The information in BRAW was very powerfull. It gave me colors and I can bring back highlight very easily. This BRAW let the camera shine.
But the S1H h.265 10bit 4:2:0 is not bad at all. Hope that Panasonic should give the S1H can record internal in 5.8K 10bit 4:2:2 instead of 10bit 4:2:0. So it should have more information from the files,
and hope that Panasonic should output RAW signal over HDMI to external recorder. And should have high frame rate in 5.8K the same as the BMPCC6K has.

I hope to test these cameras again when I get L to PL adapter for using with S1H and PL adapter for BMPCC6K.
