  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New arri camera at IBC

They, won't and they don't need to. I am more interested if they can better Red's image quality, ergonomics, reliability, workflow, etc... things that are more important than just the price.

Either way, it is a good thing for the industry: more choice.

I used to think that a Red One had better image than a D21, but from what I have heard the D21 is better. As for reliability and ergonomics, Arri have always been very good in that area.
 
hmm..from the boxy looks of it it's quite a step back in ergonomics from the 235.

edit: well there's a shoulder cut-out..so it might be quite good

Funny that everyone is comparing the 5D2 and 7D video thingy to the Red One and we have not seen good comparison of apples with apples: the D21 and the Red. I am sure it would be far more interesting comparison.

One thing that I do not like about D21 is that it is big and heavy and does not record compressed raw in a small managable package. Otherwise, it looks like a very well executed camera.

There have been some romours of a smaller, cheper, but good image quality digital cinema camera being worked on by Arri. But, I could not get any more info. I don't even know if it is 4k or what. Very interesting.
 
They maybe 3.5K sensors but with Arri they will be true 3.5K, they also understand the need for true dynamic range and they will be true to Rec 709 throw in 75 years of knowledge of the movie businessmakes them a formidable high end opponent.
Pawel Achtel is right they dont need to be cheaper, they do need to be better.
 
Well the cheaper of the 3 is 50K Euro. That's about the same as an Epic, isn't it?
