  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New again...

RED Rocket™ Drivers for both Mac and PC, and the install guide are going up now on Red.com/support.

ROCKETcine-X Beta for Mac will be up a bit later tonight, and The PC version hopefully tomorrow.

Hey Jarred, will this download of ROCKERcine-X be available to everybody on the support page?

cheers
Colin

The Mother-load of REDRocket boards come in on monday/tuesday.. that should fill all our backorders and then some, so if you ordered today you would most likely get it middle of the week next week.

Woah. When will those of us who put down deposits be contacted for payment in full? very exciting...

If you put a deposit down.. you will get an email in the next 24 hours :)

Wow, I leave for dinner and all hell breaks loose. :-)

Thanks for getting this stuff up today. I'm heading back to the office soon to play. :-)

Hey Noah.. yesterday that would of been correct... But Deanan and Rob just surprised Jim and I this morning with a very early alpha PC build of ROCKETCine-X... so stay tuned :)

awesome guys... frakkin awesome.

Here you go Kevin... we got a couple hours to go to get the release build stitched up but here is the install guide to get you (and everyone else) ready:]

This manually clearly shows that RED Rocket™ does single-link 422, too. Some how I wasn't sure about that but now I am.

So, for dual-link monitoring, I would use TVLogic XVM-245W via its dual-link mode then if I wanted to go HDMI, analog HD and SD with highest audio outputs then connect RED Rocket™s single-iink to MOTU V4HD as being standalone converter/distributor. I'm going to convince MOTU so V4HD's 9-pin to be used along with RED Rocket™ when you want to master to tape using RR.

Hey Andrew your email was sent.. check your Gmail account :)

ohh, when can we expect a Linux-SDK? Can't wait to put one into my grade-suite.
Or atleast use the new colorsience... that will be nice. Although I'm just rendering out a 2hrs feature now, sone shots would probably have benefit from the less-noisy debayer.
Ah well, next one maybe.

If a Linux/Vista SDK comes before IBC I sure that will be a big thing for the exebition.

There is a lot of talk about how fast it will make R3D>DPX... but why would someone do that, when you can work in realtime from the R3D in "any" app in realtime with the SDK.
Well, maybe not now, but soon I gues.

Little bit of SPAM.

Got my email... can't wait!

When the SDK is sent out, will it be as simple as recompiling an app using the newer SDK or will there be significant work to do?

Question/Update:

So, I have installed the card and downloaded the driver. However, I'm starting to figure out that I need new software for the card to really do anything. :-) Is this right, RED guys? None of the transcoding is actually sped up unless the app is written for the card?

So...I still wait, mostly patiently. :-)

One other issue that may have come up. In this suite, I have a Kona LHe, not a Kona 3. AJA lists the LHe needing to be in the 16x slot that RED also needs. I moved the Kona card and it's already buggy and not working. Just an fyi. Per AJA's site, the Kona 3 can be in either slot 2 or 3, so owners of that will be fine. It's us with the LHe's that may be in trouble with this slot deal...

You do need an app written for RR, which is why we are releasing ROCKETcine-X and then REDCINE-X. It is also why we are giving out an SDK so apps can make use of RR speed. Many companies are anxiously waiting for the SDK to do just that.

I fully understand... you have a new toy and you want to play with it. Soon... Deanan and Rob are on it.

Jim

Cool. I wasn't sure how that worked...if we would see a transcode speed increase just by having the card and driver installed or not.

I've done a couple RED Alert pre-card test times. I look forward to seeing them shrink with the new app's.

I hope that means you, Apple!

Im getting my funds in order - Will reply to the Red Roket email tomorrow night or the following morning with my CC info. So psyched.

Many Developers already have the cards in hand.. software that already uses the SDK will have a relatively painless upgrade to support RED Rocket Hardware... so we should start to see software pop-up soon.

Sometimes I forget that not only is Jim the leader of RED, he's also its biggest fan.

Not a bad combination at all. Wish more CEO's were like that.
