  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New again...

Put your RED Rocket™ in slot #2. So that's ATI 4870 on bottom taking up slot #1 plus the accessory space. Then the Rocket card on top of that. Probably the Kona next and then the eSATA card on top.

If you need HD-SDI output from the Rocket, you will need to route the SDI cables out somewhere else as they come off the card attach to a slot-filler. But you have no slot openings. Some possible solutions were discussed in the RED Rocket™ thread, but I think a lot of us are waiting for the card to find our own solution.

Thanks Jeff

Antoine

Would it be correct to say the following:

ROCKETCine-X is a Mac-only viewing/output tool designed specifically for REDRocket for footage playback and transcodes, it's predecessors are RED Alert! and REDrushes.

REDCINE-X is a cross-platform look development and grading tool optimized for but not requiring REDRocket, it's predecessor is REDCINE.

Hey Noah.. yesterday that would of been correct... But Deanan and Rob just surprised Jim and I this morning with a very early alpha PC build of ROCKETCine-X... so stay tuned :)

Ha- so other than the OS part the descriptions are right? We have this in the book but this chapter is supposed to be locking today.

I'm confused :-/

Why a RocketCine-X and a Redcine-x then>?

Or is this just to keep the people who have bought a RR happy till RC-X is out?

Whats the advantages one over the other if this isnt the case? :-/

Just like the first versions of RED Alert! and REDCINE co-existed quite happily together so does ROCKETCine-X and REDCINE-X.

Hi Jeff

I have the same setup as Antoine and wonder if the Kona LHe card will be necessary when the RR arrives. I am using it to feed an 11 series Plasma. How would you suggest configuring it? Are all three graphic cards needed?

Thanks

Guys, if you want to ingest or output HD using Final Cut Pro, you'll still need the Kona at least until FCP supports the Red Rocket.

The Kona products does a TON, by the way. Yes, primarily it is for capturing and outputting, but there is a lot it does that I doubt RED Rocket will, at least off the bat.

That said, it will be nice to color correct shots and play back real time into our HD SDI edit monitor and then the client Plasma monitor. Can't wait.

We have the Rocket. Once RED puts up the software, it's on. :-)

Kevin... the boys are scrambling their butts off to get you the software. It is very close.

Awesome! Thanks for the update. You guys are sometimes a little wacky there, but it seems the work ethic and number of hours put in can't be questioned. :-)

Looking forward to working on and reporting on the Rocket soon!

Thanks!

Kevin

Is there a waiting time to get a rocket? How long would you need to wait to use it if you ordered one, say, tomorrow?

The Mother-load of REDRocket boards come in on monday/tuesday.. that should fill all our backorders and then some, so if you ordered today you would most likely get it middle of the week next week.

RED Rocket Drivers for both Mac and PC, and the install guide are going up now on Red.com/support.

ROCKETcine-X Beta for Mac will be up a bit later tonight, and The PC version hopefully tomorrow.
