  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New 702 and 1703 variants from SmallHD

Finally something with better color reproduction from SmallHD...

the OLED 7.7" panel should be the same as the one used in the Odyssey 7/7Q/7Q+ serie.

I agree to some extent...but wait till you see the Odyssey blacks and colors side by side with an LCD based 702...

then you'll understand why Convergent Design preferred 720p on a 7" but with great colors and contrast VS resolution...

BTW the difference 720P vs 1080P on a 7" can be perceived by our eyes only within 25cm (less than 10"), shitty color & contrast within a mile! ;)

1280x 720 monitor in 2017 is a joke. They probably got a hold of a batch of screens the manufacturer is dumping on the market to liquidate the outdated tech.
"720p is fine "said the guy that wouldn't shoot anything but 8k hahaha...

This oled has been around in the CD Q7 for a few years. Time to move on for the manufacturer... I bet as soon as they come out with it there will be a 4K oled available.
Because in 2017- nobody wants 1080p either...

To be honest there is a clear visual difference between the 720p 7" and the 1080p one. The 720p one, which I own is 'good enough'. The 1080p is 'good'.

300 nits? Pass.

450 Nits on the 1703.

And 300 on the 702 OLED, which is indeed an OLED. It's also approximately the same clipping point as say the Flanders DM250, but I digress......

Yes and no...the only tangible difference on the field is the brightness, the 702 is quite useable outdoors while the 702 lite it's not without the hood...

But 702 lite power consumption is basically half and also from normal viewing distances and if considering motion blur in the equation it can achieve the same results, in fact in some instances, it's even better.

For example if you rely on the joystick a lot like many users of the new SmallHD line do, you'll find that the zoom (up) is BETTER on the 720 lite since it's punching inside a 1080p raster and going 1:1 or close to that,
while on the HB you're going to see worse since you're going 2:1 or so...

Of course if you are with your head pressed on the monitor like @ 20cm or so from the panel and shooting a static shot on a tripod...then your eyes/brain will be able to resolve more on the 1080p panel.

The problem is that 7.7" is borderline, it would be better 720p on an 5,6"/max 7" panel like the old DP6 or TVLogic and 1080p on an 8"/9"...

Don't get me started on how pointless would be a 4k monitor in a 7" @ usual distances...more pixels that can die, less contrast, more power consumption, more heat, more expensive, etc etc etc

Super excited to monitor my 1080 feed out of my Weapon in 4k.

I am looking at the 702 OLED is anybody out there actually using it? If so how do you like it and how does it compare to the Atomos Shogun Inferno?
