They have that "Natural" "As it Appeared" look to them.


Not "Yellowish" like Say The Cookes or Leica Summilux lenses. They're not "Cool/ Blue" like the Master Primes can sometimes appear. And, they don't have that "Magenta/ Pink" hue as I've seen sometimes in the Supreme Primes.

Rand lot of references here to films made with super baltars. Neo super baltars might look something like it but radioactive coatings are missing, different minerals are used, with different light index etc. and there has been as I understand alterations made to the lens designs to compensate.


Its a bit like showing references to a canon L 24mm EF in a thread where someone has made their own 24mm lens from looking at the canon lens... Sure if you are extremely good at making lenses you can possibly make a 24mm lens but there will likely be a difference to the Canon version. No matter if you have the lens design drawing or not. There is tons of more things going into making a lens then the physical aspects of the elements.

Not saying these NEO lenses are better or worse than the originals. But ne thing is granted. They for sure different... or the relevant link would be a godo side by side comparison.

So you've used a perfect example of the Bausch & Lomb Super Baltars? Not your copy that I believe you sold, not the super Baltars that have been recoated, not the Super Baltars with various levels of coating deterioration over time . The sample videos I've provided are from Super Baltars that have been retreated , at different levels of maintenance and at different levels of deterioration.

I don't know what differences the lack of those radioactive elements and other advancements in lens design will make . But you seem to believe you know what the "Actual" look, as intended by Bausch & Lomb for Super Baltars, was based on the copies you've owned and or used . No, the best representational videos I could have posted would be of the Neo Super Baltars, which Brian stated are made based from the original Bausch & Lomb Super Baltars lens designs, and a Bausch& Lomb Super Baltar still "brand new" unopened in it's original box with its lens coatings unaffected by time.
