DOP Gaute Gunnari. Shot on Super Baltars, Alexa 444 Pro Res.

Directed by Andreas Riiser.

The Super Baltars where used by Gordon Willis on the Godfather I and II, Mr Willis also used some Kowa Cine Prominar Lenses on the Godfather II. I have a set of Super Baltars, 25,35,50,75,100 and are still looking for a nice 20mm. I was offered a 20 mm where the seller claimed that the actual lens was used on the Godfather. Taking no chances I contacted Hardwick Johnson and George Harris, the same guys that on March 22, 1971 loaded Mr Willis and cameraoperator Michael Chapman's camera truck. They still work at the rental house Arri CSC 40 years later. The response was as expected, they had no record of serial numbers dating back that far, because they did not know that the Godfather would make cinematography history.
But they wished me good luck on renting out the lenses on a feature planned to be shot on the Super Baltars or the Lomo Anamorphic by DP Gaute Gunnari fall or summer 2012.

Gordon Willis - Craft Truck - Through the Lens - S01EP9

Just an interview with Gordan Willis about his views on cinematography, not really about the Super Baltars. I promise the next post will be back on subject.

By crafttruck

Gordon Willis is regarded by all of his peers as one of the greatest cinematographers in the history of film, and for many as the greatest of all time, period. Between lensing The Godfather trilogy, many of Woody Allen's best films (including Annie Hall, Manhattan, Stardust Memories, Interiors, and others) and several master thrillers for Alan J. Pakula (All the President's Men, Klute, The Parallax View, The Devil's own, and others), Gordon Willis practically single-handedly re-invented the craft of cinematography and the nature by which films were and are composed, lit, and executed. He has left an indelible mark on the craft of filmmaking and we are delighted to present him in a two part interview here. We hope you enjoy a small window into a great man's achievements and approach.

Megan Washington - Begin Again

I can't say enough wonderful things about Megan Washington.

Alice Topp is responsible for the beautiful choreography and I can't wait to work with her again.

Shot on a RED Dragon, Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and Blackmagic Cinema Camera with Super Baltar lenses. The Red sat on a Movi all day. Cut in FCPX, graded in Resolve and mastered in NukeStudio.

KROGER “VALENTINE’S” TV Spot

By Jeff Barklage

Valentines TV spot I DP'd, and Jim Walter directed.
Fun images and some nice table-top/food photography.
Shot outside Portland, Oregon during a heavy & dark rain...we really tried to make the windows and skies look "happy" and not sad :-)
Lens flares help mask the depressed weather...
We utilized vintage Super Baltar primes and tiny Leica zooms for the optics, lots of medium speed over-cranking to romance the images/motion...the first-up shot of the falling heart candies was shot at 250fps.
Shot on Red Epic Dragon.

Rush - Trailer 3

By Rush

IMDb says it used Cooke S2, Zeiss Master Prime and Bausch & Lomb Super Baltar Lenses. Some Sites just say Super Baltars

Screenshot-346.png

Screenshot-347.png

RUSH portrays the exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed—handsome English playboy James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl). Set against the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, Rush follows the two drivers as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there is no shortcut to victory and no margin for error.

Two-time Academy Award® winner Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind, Frost/Nixon), teams once again with fellow two-time Academy Award® nominee, writer Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), on Rush, a spectacular big-screen re-creation of the merciless 1970s rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

Also starring Olivia Wilde (TRON: Legacy) and Alexandra Maria Lara (The Reader), Rush is produced by Andrew Eaton (A Mighty Heart), Howard, Academy Award® winner Brian Grazer (Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind), Eric Fellner (Senna, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Morgan and Brian Oliver (Black Swan) and executive produced by Cross Creek Pictures, Exclusive Media, Todd Hallowell and Tim Bevan. Universal Pictures will distribute the film in North America.

Rush was shot on location in the U.K., Germany and Austria.
