NATURAL HISTORY CINEMATOGRAPHY

Canary Islands Nature Ad

Canary Islands Nature Ad

I want to share with you a sample of one of our last projects: the new campaign for the Canary Islands Tourist Board that we were commissioned to shoot last year. Two months filming the most iconic wild places of the archipielago by land, air and underwater. An unforgettable experience and a challenge but also a real privilege. We want to dedicate it to the wonderful people of the Canary islands for their friendliness and hospitality and thank them for discover us the amazing nature of their homeland.
The Canary Islands are a place with an special energy and so unique that it has to be protected.

Hope you like it.
Shot on Epic-X. Timelapses with Canon and aerials with Cineflex.

That looks great, Alberto. Very nice work.

I'm currently working on a segment for the BBC's next Chris Packham series. Unfortunately, I can't share any screencaps or project details here (yet), but it's a big break for me and I'm pretty excited about it.

In the mean time, we have a bunch of Short-eared Owls in my area this winter, and I cut together a short piece with them for the Superbowl/Superb Owl weekend.

It's been ages since I've visited this thread, but always blown away when I do. Alberto, your work is really breathtaking.
I wonderful diversity of techniques to capture some truly remarkable natural landscapes.

Thanks Alan! Beautiful shots of the Owls, I love this species. Good luck with that BBC collaboration, I totally understand you are excited about it, I would be the same...;)

Mauricio, thanks! Your work is amazing, especially those underwater shots!

And Joe Pontecorvo, thanks so much. I enjoyed a lot your snow monkeys doc, truly inspiring! Cheers!

Just bought a Canon FD 150-600mm f/5.6, it was converted to Universal mount and the seller included for free a nikon mount.

I'v heard a lot about this lens for wildlife, I found a great deal (1000 GBP) and I'v bought it.

Does anyone have tried this lens with TC1.4x and 2.0x?

It was never the sharpest lens - it's very good but not up there with fast prime 300,400 and 600 lenses (I've owned 3 or 4 of them). I have used it with 2x converter and it was still OK - but that was mostly in Super 16 days. Only way to know would be to try it. The Sigma 300-800 is definitely MUCH sharper and more contrasty.

Thanks Steve,

I also intend to buy a sigma 300-800mm, but for this price for sure it will be better than my sigma 50-500mm.

When the lens arrives I will make some tests.

Hi All,

I thought I’d share some stills from a recent trip to the Kalahari. All shot on a Dragon LLO OLPF with a Sigma 300-800mm. I’m still struggling a bit with the weight of the 300-800, especially shooting out of a car window, but I’m getting better :)

Rob

In my experience the 300-800mm is a touch soft at the long end while wide open, but still very usable. Aberrations go away when you stop down a fraction of a stop or pull back to around 700mm. I only find myself using it wide open when the sun goes down, though - the depth of field is much more workable when stopped down.

I've only used it with a teleconverter once and it seemed to hold up pretty well with a 1.4X at f/16 (the lens at f/11 minus a stop from the converter). There's some heat distortion at play here, but this is a 1080p export from 3K acquisition using that setup:

Thanks Alan. Going through some of my footage more carefully, it does seem a teeny bit soft wide open at 800mm. It's quite slight though: only noticeable to me at 100% zoom. Here's a 100% crop with sharpness set to 0.

I had a canon 600mm f/4 IS and wide open was as sharp as stop down, only the DOF changed.

The sigma is a zoom, lens so its more difficult to maintain sharpness in all zoom range, also, I had several sigma lens (not the 300-800, but the 120-300) and not all copies are equal, some are sharper than other, quality control on Canon is better.

The Canon 200-400mm must be great, expensive, but great.

Hi, my canon 150-600mm as arrives, I notice that it does have a 48mm filter from Canon that says "regular 1x", does anyone knows if I can put a 48mm ND, or ND vari ?

If so, should I buy vari, or normal, witch factors should I have?

Thanks
