  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- RED MOTION MOUNT

Have l missed something is the motion mount shipping! can't see it on RED.com

Canon mount. I'll take one. $ ready. Bomb squad rep has my shipping and payment info on file I'm sure...(if only it was this easy)

Now that I have the shiny new firmware on our Dragon that has 'Motion Mount' mentioned in places, I'm aching for this to ship. Too much tech is never enough :)

I'm working on a massive Ontario Tourism campaign that could have really used a canon version. Between our Gates deep water housing and octocopter setups it sure would be awesome. Not having to land the chopper or depressurize the Gates housing to change screw on NDs would have been a huge boost to our productivity.
Also wondering if it'll do grad's.

This is one combo I'm dying to get my hands on.

Ageed sir ;)

Do you think you'd leave it on all the time & just get comfortable with losing that stop?

Thanks,
PCG

All I know is that this things are just beautifully designed, and so are the cases... As usual with RED products which makes it really hard to trow the boxes away... ;)

That's weird, should it work the same as the normal PL mount?

Are there other lenses that don't work with the motion mount?

Motion mount not compatible with RPP 18mm it says on the product page, anyone know why?

Just got home this evening and checking the boards and I do get a few emails about the Motion Mount and if it's a "must have". That's not really for me to decide, but.........

To add to this thread in case you missed my notes and user experience found here:

The Motion Mount has pretty much been living on my Epic. When in ND Only mode I tend to use the 1.60-6 stop range. Sometimes 7. Rarely find the urge to got to 8 outdoors, but it's there if you need it with the proper concerns discussed in the manual about shooting wide open at higher ranges with certain lenses. Carry that .9 or 1.2 ND just in case you want to go nuts.

Square (traditional global shutter look) mode is pretty great. Soft is something that I've been enjoying playing with more and more. I have a little project that I'll use Soft Mode on entirely.

Really what's impressing me is the color consistency. It's really different compared to working with NDs that could have variation between batches and ranges. It's clearly calibrated to create nice color throughout the range of ND control.

This is really a tool that people need to play with to understand it's potential. Once you start it's hard to take the bloody thing off because of the level of control you have at your fingertips. Nature, documentary, indi, news, etc. Honestly it doesn't stop there because you can pretty much use it anywhere. It's innovative and a device with "potential" written all over it.

RPP 18 and motion mount

Phil, do you know why the RPP 18mm is listed as incompatible with the motion mount?

The rear of the 18mm RPP extends more than the other RPPs. We have not found any other lens that is incompatible other than the Optimo Rouge zooms (16-42mm, 30-80mm).

Motion Mount is really amazing. I can't imagine shooting Dragon in daylight without it.

I shot a test against stacked NDs and stacked IRNDs with a couple EPIC MXs - just havn't had time to post images and video yet - hopefully in the next day or two.

Just carry your standard PL with you in the event you want to shoot wider than a T4 - or you want to shoot in low light like a night exterior. You have to adjust back focus when changing to and from standard PL and Motion Mount - but if you know what you are doing - you can change the mount and adjust back focus in less than 3 minutes.
