  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB Show Rumors

Stick it on your Raptor!

If it's a smart gyro then you'd need one on the bottom to sync the rig, I would imagine. That could be reasonably expensive! Unless you just put an accelerometer down there and wire that to the top of the rig. My imagination and lack of engineering/physics is getting the better of me now.

I say it's one of these things:

1) Canon EF mount with metabones speedbooster plus maybe an nd filter wheel inside
2) reliable wireless focus at a new price point
3) What William just posted

Largely based on things I am looking for myself.

So last year, Jim and Jarred posted online after the Sunday night party any new product announcements. Is that going to happen this year or is Monday morning at the booth where sh*t going down??? Ok Brett... what do you know???

From Vincent's blog

I really can’t imagine ever going to any shoot without this "device" as part of my standard kit ever again

I'm pretty excited, this is a massive statement:

almost every single filmmaker whether they are documentary shooters, indie filmmakers, or major hollywood directors or DPs will find that this device will allow them to do their jobs in ways they never could before

Plus... when Lytro came out, didn't Jim mention something like "we're working on something similar/better"? I thought I recall him saying something like that. Game changer? Game over if that's it!

But, on the whole, we're excited. As far as specific companies we're watching? We do a lot of work with Blackmagic, and I like their momentum, so we always go to their booth. Obviously we're big in the Red ecosystem, so we want Dragon [Red's newest sensor] now, we want 4K projectors now, we want all the doodads now. And there are some stabilized camera rigs we're looking at as well.

If you have 1 x Accelerometer_&_Active_Gyro -> distance -> Camera_Lens that you are trying to stabilise - it might be a bit 'noisy' to for the active control circuit in the Gyro.

If you have 1 x Accelerometer_&_Active_Gyro -> distance -> Camera_Accelerometer (sending data to the Gyro) -> distance -> Camera_Lens maybe you can more accurately stabilise around the lens' point in space?

Yeah, if you have an array of accelerometers you can triangulate, or use parallax (I don't know the right mathematical term for it) to increase accuracy for a focal point at the center.

Though if it is accelerometers there's probably a trade-off of noise, camera weight and battery life. Or it's not this at all. Ah, I am so on the edge of my seat right now. Mr Laforet knows how to put on a show.
