So we are just under 7-days away from the opening (exhibits) of NAB 2013. While there are some press events on Sunday, April 8th is when most of us will hear the announcements coming from Las Vegas.

Wanted to see what kind of rumors you guys were hearing in regard to the new technology being announced/showcased at the show? Full story here: http://www.texascamerarentals.com/nab-2013/, but here is a summary of what's been floating around:

RED- Of course I think we are all awaiting word on the Dragon sensor upgrade, but is there bigger news planned? "If anything I have ever said rings true, you need to be there.” - Jim Jannard (regarding NAB 2013). Are we finally going to see 3K for $3k? Is there a new camera on the horizon?

Sony- Will probably be showcasing their CineAlta PL primes and the F5/F55, but will they announce a "FS100R?" Sony users have been asking for 10 bit SDI out from the FS100, which would make the camera an attractive option for those considering an F3. With the F3 on the market almost 3-years, is it time for an upgrade/replacement?

Canon- Are they planning a new camera priced between the C100 ($6500) and the C300 ($15k)?

With the success of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera last year, I'm really thinking that GoPro might make the move and introduce an entry level cinema camera this year. I think I read on REDuser that their RAW recording technology is licensed from RED. They have the codec and lots of money backing them, will they make a big move?

New Mac Pro

His quote

" To be fair this new device won’t be as affordable as the Canon 5D MKII was – but once you understand what it does, you’ll see it will pay for itself in days relative to what other things it replaces and how it can fundamentally change the way you shoot.

At first I thought about lighting, and then focusing too. Hmmmm....

PUSH FOCUS

Or building on the focus theory, maybe it's a focus system that uses a camera mounted and calibrated (to the lens) "laser field" (?) in conjunction with a touch monitor and all you have to do is touch where in the frame you want to focus and it focuses there. Or you can touch and drag to hold focus on a moving subject. It would now be called "Push Focus".

Very probable. I saw this demoed at a small booth at NAB last year.

+) What about an in-ear microphone that uses a mini Digital to Analogue converter -> connected to an 802.1AC -> wireless network. No more lapel mikes, or boom required, and no more hiss. Maybe it could even be used to conduct sound into the earbone too ... so you don't have to scream 'Action' for long shots ;)

My prediction: Lots of bloggers spouting guff. Few product announcements. No game changers. Same as usual...

The game can't be changed any time soon just because film 65mm is still unbeatable with its IQ, latitude and colour rendering.

Sanjin, I know what you are saying, but I somewhat disagree in terms of practicality.
I recently shot a lot of footage in India as a single person 'crew' with the entire camera rig fitting in a backpack.
My backpack weighed less than the weight of the 65mm camera body alone ( at 40lbs... no lens or film mag ) and I am able to equal the quality of that camera when presented on a UHD TV set.
That is REAL 4K .
Yes, the 65mm camera makes even higher quality, but for me targeting 'only' 4K viewing this is just amazing.

Have you ever lifted a roll of 65mm film ? It's one heavy chunk of plastic I'll tell you that!
