  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB 2014 - SCARLET DRAGON

Now that SCARLET DRAGON is knocking on the door, we were able to dial in the specs. Yes, some of the original specs changed. We were able to squeeze in 6K. We could do this for $14,500. We are very happy with where SCARLET DRAGON ended up...

Any info on WS fps?

I see where this fits in nicely with what's coming. Access for current Scarlet owners to get up to the Dragon tech, which to me is night and day, is key.

I'm assuming this confirms that Scarlet Dragon is not an EOL product, as a number of folks speculated.

That's actually an interesting question. Will potential future upgrade options be different if you upgrade to Scarlet D vs. buying a new Scarlet D?

Interesting question new Scarlet Dragon Vs upgraded. Nice...nah...... great position to be in.

For me personally, that is bad news. I would have prefered "1-150 fps 2K" so much more over the ability to shoot 6k. But I guess, high frame rates are the USP for an EPIC.

Edward, RED is silent about the high fps @ WS at the moment. We will just have to wait and see for final specs.
And remember: Burst mode has been announced again! so it will all be different. And I'm sure: for the better!

Am I missing something? The price of a scarlet is $8,000 and the current upgrade is $9500 so in total its $17,500. So shouldnt the upgrade be cheaper? Or mabye cheaper to sell the scarlet used and just pick up a new Dragon version....

For me doing wildlife, 50fps (PAL region) is the minimum for me to buy a camera, 48fps it's no good...

If it does 50/60 fps in 4K 16:9 or HD will buy one, if not, will have to look for other options.

6k back in, thats great. Thanks RED. It's great to see things are moving on for Scarlet-D.

I don't know what you guys are thinking, the upgrade-price is fair, the price for a new brain is fine. For me, it doesn't make much sense to keep the Scarlet-MX and buy a new Scarlet-D instead of the upgrade. You save 5000USD. Given that the new price of a Scarlet-MX-brain is 7950USD i don't think i can sell it for more than 5000USD. And hey, for a few grand more you can upgrade your Scarlet to a EPIC-D.

I'm curious about the final WS-fps too... :)

Thank you RED for keeping Scarlet alive and making it much better. I love it. Now it's a camera that can shoot so much more movies, it could have shot the Hobbit in HFR. And it has a much better sensor... Awesome and mind-blowing. There is really no more reason to treat Scarlet as B-cam or just a backup.

But i'm still trying to get enough funds together to get a EPIC-D. :D
