  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB 2014 - DRAGONcolor and REDgamma 4

Try this guys grade the footage on gamma space of "redlogfilm" and view the clip 100%.
Change between redcolor3 and dragoncolor. There is not change.

Keep in mind before fanboys lynch me for this, the sensor is awesome the dynamic range is there, but again, it is not a significant change in roll-offs and skin tones. Lets accept it.

The game's up... Asif caught us all out. Oh wait.

OK, REDmote's been docked on the Epic for 38 minutes now and battery's running out. No sign of REDmote being upgraded, its buttons still do nothing so I can't select AGREE in the License agreement screen. I suppose Epic is not upgrading the REDmote while the agreement screen is being displayed.

Guys, did you notice the screen on the side handle? :) Loving this update more and more!

Love the way dragon color looks. even when I push colors around like mad it still feels natural, signal colors like red does not go flat etc.

I can def see a skin tone change on MX footage with DRAGONcolor. It seems to be taking some orange cast out.

Here are some screenshot comparisons.

Tehben,

Nice. I didn't try with MX footage, I was using DRAGON. However, gamma space was REDLOGFILM. then try to switch between the color spaces. ;)

I added Rc3 and Dc with REDlogfilm. There is definitely a difference.

The other thing to note is DRAGONcolor helps hot reds a lot in the MX footage.

anyone else having issues downloading the epic firmware right now?

seems like all 3 beta have been pulled?

same here. hopefully they're back up soon.

yes, i can't seem to find the download for Dragon.......can we have it back up please.

However, gamma space was REDLOGFILM.

Checking color in uncorrected log space is a bit like trying to judge the performance of a vehicle from the passenger seat.

I tried RedGamma4 in RC-X, but how do I get this to work with Adobe Premiere CS6? This messes up my workflow now. Currently, my workflow is as follows:

Edit in Premiere, also includes Warp Stabilizing footage that needs it.
Export XML to RC-X
Color Correct all clips
Use "Fallen Empire - Reset RED RMD" to update RMD meta settings in Premiere
Add 30 points of sharpness to all clips
Export master with Lagarith Lossless Codec with max settings / resolution
Use Handbrake to render other resolutions / bitrates from master

Now, CS6 can't see RedGamma 4, since there won't be an update to the plugin. So what's a new workflow that I can incorporate RedGamma 4, and have my completed project from Premiere edited the way I have it? (I'm assuming exporting through RC-X, but how does that work?)

You'll need to wait until Adobe implements the new color spec in Premiere CC to maintain this workflow Adam. Annoying but pretty typical these days - Red releases a new feature and then it takes a month or two to start seeing it being implemented in other Apps which use RED's SDK.

Mine shows a visible change in several areas as do my example images. So I have no real idea what Asif is on about.

Areas I can clearly see differences in comparing DRAGONcolor and RG3/RG4 are:

- skin tones
- tonal density
- top end super saturation
- chromatic separation in near neutrals, which is also visible in the skin tones.
