Nab 2008...

For sure.

Also each RED user needs a sort of protection plan too.

For example I cannot glue any RED sticker on my car because it is going to be a target car for many thieves to brake in and look for RED.

It's true.

I'm feeling an anti-digital angst in some serious pro-s in my country, and the RED seems to be the 100 % embodiment of this new evil. :)

(Живко, смятам се сещаш, че не говоря за теб :) )

It's a prejudice and has nothing to do with the quality of the camera, but changes always meet some resistance.

Big changes meet big resistance.

It will pass, people are now flying in the sky.

:).

I really wonder if we're going to make it to Mars in my [our] lifetime.

Hmm... I'd love to see some Mars footage from a RED II or RED III, for example...

I think it would be a suitable camera for this particular planeta.

:spidy:

i probably would have been happy with 16GB CF cards and the RED mattebox....

am i thinking too small here?

Nab 2008 may rock our world but I was just thinking...so will the first RED (or Scarlet) footage of a UFO, or a cat 5 tornado. No more shaky-cam vhs of these events.

Red just may rock the news world too in the not too distant future. Can you imagine CNN talking about the quality of these shots and they go into a discussion of the RED camera?

They don't use 35mm for news do they? No. Then they won't use Red for that purpose either. It's not a point and shoot camera.

Arrgghhh I can't make it! After reading this I REALLY wanna see what RED has to offer.

they dont use 35 because its costly and the post end takes too long
I see no reason why they couldnt use it for certain events.

They used 16mm film up to the 80's for news acquisition until Sony came out with a convenient tape format and camera. The station I worked at converted from film to betacam, skipping 3/4 inch.

The reason 35mm would not be used is because film is too slow (processing) for news and the rigs are too big...by today's standards.

Today's digital video cameras trump that path for so many reasons...but now that HD is coming on strong (and SD is on it's way out), the red camera "can" be used for news coverage too...but you are correct in that....events like what I described are rarely caught by news crews. It's the independents that get that stuff. Storm chasers would love to use a high quality camera to get their tornadoes. Stock shoots would prefer it too.

The red camera may not be 'point and shoot' but if you had one in your car and just happened to be at the right place and time, you're telling me you wouldn't grab the camera and start shooting?

#1 final cut announces 4k editing with color.
or

#2
Red has found a way to get 13 stops and the highlight shoulder matching film.

I hope for number two but would be ecstatic with #1.

#3 is 4k affordable projection.

Bets down.

We may need protection... :-)

Jim

No need for protection, Jim, even if you're so awfully good at teasing and raising expectations, and even if I have to wait the next month... for a sleep mode while I see "my" number coming up :)

See : you said nothing but "can't you wait until the feature is enabled", and that sounds very much like "can't you trust Red wizard # 1 ... sleep mode's already fixed, of course, and we're already a long way past it".

Red got us used to expect very much, and get even more than expected...

A happy NAB for you and the Red team, anyway, and a true nightmare for competitors, ..and I wish I could make the trip to see it.

MAN! I just cant wait for the nab. Only a week or so away. So many good news and posts all over the place. This forum/community is awesome. Whatever you come up with during the show its obvious its going to be something worth seeing in first hand. And so good to feel that after a huge effort one has made to get this equipment there is a lot of new and upcoming effort to improve on the basis that the customer/client is satisfied. And this is invaluable. Priceless. Cant wait til june #3084

I'm hoping they announce a software update that allows the Red One to:

- scale the full sensor area to 3k, 2k, 1080 and 720 (instead of cropping). Of course cropping should remain an option (there are actually times I would prefer to crop (for the greater DOF look of TV News).
- shoot AT LEAST 30FPS (and 40 would be better) in 4K resolution
- playback ramped footage, or at least warn without rebooting.
- A Red Mattbox would be great, but I doubt anyone could compete with the excellent job Redrock Micro has done bringing a quality Mattebox to an affordable price.
- Maybe a Windows version of Red Alert or a RedCode RAW Plugin for Vegas 8.0.

Also, I'd love to see Red release 8", 17" and 27" 720p monitors that look as good as the 4" Red LCD. Maybe the 27" could be 1080. Maybe a splitter for the Red-LCD Output so I can mount two Red LCDs to the camera at the same time.

Hard to say if the RR MB is high quality or not since it won't ship until April 15th. Also, red already has plans for a MB so I think they plan on joining the competition.

Apple has still not provided the advertised NAB 2007 support to red cameras that was promised would come out about a month after NAB 07. I would be very leery to trust any red support apple advertises this year.

Red has found a way to get 13 stops and the highlight shoulder matching film.

How about they get the camera to perform better then the current 8-8.5 stops of lattitude it is exhibiting instead of pulling crazy numbers like 13 stops out.

It has been very specifically announced that this will not happen in camera.

The camera already shoots 30 frames in 4K.

They have already announced that there will be no Windows version of RED:Alert!. They have also stated that 3rd party support like what you're asking for won't come until REDCODE has stabilized a little.

Just saying... :)
