  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

My Scarlet will arrive tomorrow!

I believe the discussion should be moved to another thread and leave this to Brandon's scarlet thread...

Love the fact that you got #0006. Still can't get over that...I wished that I got something like #0008 or #0088 even #21 would be awesome...

Sorry. You are right. And I am very happy for Brandon.

I just don't see the reason for anyone to bash anyone for buying any camera, as long as the gives them the possibility to accomplish the images they are capable of envisioning.

Really. It is mostly about what you can see in your head. The cam is a tool to express that. And if people are willing to pay you to do that, all the better.

It is not a human right to be a photographer, but anyone with a vision and with some idea as to how to express that vision, should be allowed to that with the means he or she prefers, without going into a 2k vs 4k vs wavelet vs long-GOP discussion... :)

Mind you, I find those discussions interesting and learn from them.
But they have nothing to do related to the main thing.

Capturing the ideas you envision, or having the technical capacity to capture the images someone else envisions.

Sory for contributing to the noise!

Cheers and congrats Brandon!
Looking foreward to see your imagery!

I agree. Cameras aid those images that we see in our head to come out into the open world for all to see. If we see something, we have a camera. We have the understanding all we can potentially produce that and hopefully everyone will enjoy it. Its matter of taste at the end of the day and no doubt some else will share the same tastes.

As for the 5D, 1080p discussions. I have a simple logic to run by you all.

RED is 4K. You all say 4K is pointless now. I agree. It is. RED is clearly foolish for producing 4K now. But wait, hang on a second! RED can't be foolish because they are trying to create the digital equivalent of film...which is arguably 4K and beyond (IMAX).

Now lets switch industries to an industry that aids the film industry. TVs. This is how the consumer watches content right? The stuff everyone with a camera makes and sells, consumers (other than the internet) tend to watch features on a TV via the DVD or Blu-Ray and with some popcorn of course.

Now remember when 1080p was fresh off the block, everyone said it was pointless buying blu-rays and that DVDs were so much better and cheaper, that you didn't really see the quality difference. Suddenly...where is all the standard def TVs gone? Oh dear me, they seemed to have been over taken now by 1080p TVs that are getting cheaper and cheaper. Interesting that. Now they are marketing blu-rays as the medium of choice over DVDs. DVDs are of course around but they are really pushing how much better it is to watch Blu-Rays if you have a 1080p TV. Blu-Ray players are of course pretty damn cheap now too!

What happens when that 1080p well dries up? Well If I was a TV manufacturer and I had a pretty damn good marketing team, I'd probably think to myself, hmm...4K seems like a good place to aim for, lets market that. Soon enough you'll see the 4K TVs that were priced like early plasma and 1080p TVs. Damn expensive for the regular person but they will drop in price. When they drop, 1080p will be like Standard Def. When that happens everything that was shot on film and RED will be re-mastered to whatever is going to deliver you 4K. Where does that leave 1080p content? Since 1080p can't become 4K. Unless you thinking of coming up with magic like that whole 'zoom and enhance'.

TV adverts, short films and the like can be done in 1080p, agreed. Features and documentaries etc. I hope would look for 4K. To keep their stuff relevant and looking amazing even in the future. The industry is always evolving, its how it survives, it how it makes money. RED is making sure that you can, in the kindest way, double dip.

EDIT:
I do apologize Brandon, I can't wait to see the footage you put out. I realize I said to move this to another thread but evidently I just carried on. Just wanted to run that logic by people and see what most thought

What are you going to name her?

Seems to me as if it already has a fitting name.

"Toaster".

Sorry but you all are delusional, is this what the industry has turned to? a bunch of whining children? Take it from me I have worked with a allot of professionals, this camera will bring you more disappointments than it will bring you joy. I can't believe this is what times have come to, I thought I was joining a professional forum not this mess..

????
LOL!

OK!

Thanks!

Fine!

Hahahahahaha

Weird, I didn't notice the topic of this thread had been changed from «My Scarlet will arrive tomorrow!» to «Take a shit on my parade!». wtf.

In Norwegian "6" is pronounced like "sex"....

just sayin'

I should have said this earlier, but I want to thank my Bomb Squad rep Kris Prygrocki. He is always quick to get back to me and even went so far as to call me during the madness that was launch night. I really could not ask for more.

I second that, Kris is my rep as well and has been fantastic and always responds to me quickly, including after hours on occasion.

Somehow, my Ignore-list just scored a new Member, welcome there ... ;-)

Well...your signature is 'considering making a purchase of these very much talked about cameras.'

I do have a question...could you please enlighten me to your logic if you'd be so kind? I mean the Scarlet is ham stringed sure but its not ham stringed anymore than say...the RED One...
Though I do enjoy hearing as to the logic people have onto why the Scarlet is such a failure? Price and specs certainly seem to out do most of the market...

Brandon, what lenses are you going to be rocking on the Ti PL? Saw you got your first one, so really looking forward to seeing what the images look like and what your sets going to be,shopping around for PL lenses myself and leaning towards CP.2s but apparently they aren't 'as sharp' as RPPs but size is real nice compared though...
Also are you going V-Lock or REDVolts only?

Man, you are kind of an asshole.

Let Brandon enjoy having a Scarlet. Seriously.

You comment probably made me more mad than any comment ever on RedUser.

I'm going with old glass. I am starting with these LOMO spherical lenses:

22MM OKC3-22-1 1:2
35MM OKC12-35-1M 1:1.4
50MM OKC1-50-6 1:2

I already have the 35MM. The other 2 are on the way. All were converted to PL mount from the original OCT19 mount. They all come with 32 pitch focus gear rings. I'll add to that set as needed.

For power I already have a 4 pack of REDVOLTS. I will get at least one more 4 pack in the next few weeks and possibly a third 4 pack in the not too distant future. The REDVOLT QUAD CHARGER ($490) should be available soon and I'm grabbing that as soon as I can. I already have a Travel Charger. Oh, and I plan to get a DUAL REDVOLT MODULE ($1,250) when they are available. With that and the Side Handle I can have 3 REDVOLTS at a time loaded up.

I will most likely be getting one of Brook Willard's V-Lock Battery Plates ($699) later as well so that I can rent V-Locks as needed if the shoot warrants it.

That's the plan as it stands now.

Looks like my RED TOUCH 5.0" LCD just went out the door. Just got a FedEx notification.

If its anything like the epic it will blow your mind. I spent 3 days with it(oh no with out playback, which is now here) and it blew my mind. I have worked with a few professionals in my career and the RED organization is one of them. Go back to wherever you came from and leave us "amatuers" alone with our new weird cameras to shoot too high of a resolution. Thanks RED team for defining digital cinema and all it's potential!!! Noone else was doing it.
