  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

my EOS "smart" mount...

So are you betting on both? When do you think you could finally shoot with an EF mount?
I still can't get information in one of these mount is actually available? not to buy but to be send if i buy i mean... What is the current state please? :)

Nobody knows, my friend.

Nobody knows, my friend.

What is the current state please?

Really, nobody knows the answer to that one. Any time frames published ought to be taken with a trainload of salt.
If you need anything in the foreseeable future, go Nikon.
And keep your fingers crossed, and a working, non-warranty-breaking Canon mount might just turn up next week, next month or in 3 months.

Btw.: Akube, you just set a new benchmark in speed-of-replying :)

I could understand it's not easy to do but i find more difficult that they can either just tell a date we could trust?

There is a sure demand for that mount, i wish i have money and connection to make the production of that mount start really...

Thank you Andy!
Any idea of when the IQ boost for the dumb mount is coming along?

And have you gotten around to RED's place to have the mount authorized?

my mount is on the way.. freggin UPS.. they sent my mount to freggin ontario canada.. lol... this is the second fuck up from ups in a row. they sent my first international priority shipment in 14 days.. two weeks! and i paid $140 for shipping a sekonik cinelightmeter. freggin ups.

Mine went to Canada too.
What's so special about Ontario?

Ha! Guys... wanna hear a story about shipping companies? My ActionCam flew from Zurich to Paris, then landed here in NYC (20 minutes from me). But, then, it continued on to Alaska, of all places, before returning to NYC to be delivered a couple of days later. I spoke to a few Fedex reps and none could explain why the routing system works the way it does. Go figure.

Yep, same here.
Actually I was expecting Andy would ship with USPS... aaaanyway.

The mechanical part of Andy's mount just got full RED certification.

This is beyond awesome.

Thank you, Andy, Thank you Jarred.

Now Andy, how do I order (again)? I ordered quite a few months back, but never got a reply. Just need a "dumb" mount. On your website (http://www.andylesniak.com/red/ ) I can no longer find the option to order / pay by Paypal.

If you send me your pay-pal address and the amount to get the lovely Canon mount shipped to Norway, I'll e-mail it to you a.s.a.p.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Can't say it often enough.

A long, long wait seems to come to a conclusion.

As just a Dumb Mount... I am more than happy to say you will face no warranty issues. The mount goes on and off the camera as easy as our Nikon mount, and can be done by the user with little risk.

Andy, Next time.. please send the stuff through fedex. The shipment has been travelling in circles for the past 4 days.

Is there any official web site concerning this mount? Where do you guys are taking order?
Has anyone actually shooting with this mount?

thanks

my sorta weekly "state of the mount" .....

Hi guys, gals.. it's moving forward, had a good time down at RED yesterday.
I have left a few mounts and smart controllers down there for some torture
testing. I am shipping dumb mounts, but in limited quantities, I think I will
drop UPS (like they drop your packages) hehe, especially international shipping
is a frickin nightmare, and you only get 1 or sometimes 2 options.
so international is gonna go fedEX for sure, and most likely domestic too.

Also we have updated the way we handle focus, there was a little bit of lag
when we were messing with the mount at the NYC meeting. so we re-though
of the design a bit. right now the 3 focus modes, are "fine", "fast", "adaptive"

fine = super fine microsteps of the lens focus, use in 1:1 more to get critical focus
fast = rough focus just quicker than fine
adaptive = focus speed is based on velocity of how fast you turn the encoder.
this let's you single step or zip from one end to the other. has a more intuitive feel

another change is the addition of a standard mount threaded hole on the back
of the controller, (just like the LCD), for attachment to side handles ect...
I still like the good ole velcro.. but hey options, options, options...

we still want to ship around christmas, and are scrambling now to assemble
controllers, and get more units built... speaking of UPS, we had some more
parts lost and returned to sender, reason's unknown! grrr, but they are finally
here. Also you will be able to upgrade your "dumb" mounts to "smart" as
soon as the smart are shipping, you'll get full credit for the price of the dumb mount
and just pay the diference. we're juggling the production/sales front right
now, and working on a new company server for sales, the paypal thing sucks
and was just there for a stop-gap for people in dire need of mounts... which
happens to be everyone. doh. it's going to be replaced shortly with a proper
shopping cart, with shipping calculator, inventory counter, yada yada.

great bunch of peeps down there at RED, looking forward to working with the
guys on making this a better product, we threw around a bunch of ideas, and
it's very exciting time. I would like to have the "Advanced" controller ready
in time for around NAB.. (advanced = bluetooth, iPhone, remote camera trigger,
coffee maker interface, PA smacker. and whatever other ideas come along.

here's a pic of what shipping units look like.

-Andy

I tried ordering the dumb mount and it says that it is sold out. My guess is that Andy is about to get swamped by a lot of Birger evacuees.

Hey, Andy, any chance of also working with Viewfactor to get the Impero to talk to your mount?

Thank you Andy, my mount is on the way (still) and I can't wait to try it!
I like the idea of Adaptive focus.
To be honest USPS expedited or international express works for me and it also helps skip customs...
But for now UPS will have to do. I suppose you thought it's the best option and went with it.
