  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

more renders...

One of the issues is that people here have good ideas, but they may not be possible for some reason that we don't have time to explain. These cameras are dependent on a thousand things coming together in a small box. It is easy to say "hey... how about this?". It could be a great idea, but there is either no room, we are over the heat threshold, it would compromise something else, it is cost prohibitive, or any number of other implications. And we just don't have time to tell why this can or can't work. Additionally, changes take time. We could get into a never ending evolution of undelivered products. Every time a new idea is implemented, ten other possibilities spring from it.

I think that our recent release shows that we do listen. And we have taken what we have heard to levels that no one thought of. But we can only do so much in such a short period of time to hit all the wishes in a price and size arena that everyone thinks is ideal.

Jim
Dear Mr Jannard,

We all know very well who you are.

Most of us are poor filmmakers.

Some of us (majority?) want the best technology for the buck. But not rocket science.

A grand above-the-line can mean not to buy. Same as any budget where we have expenses above and under the line. Some we can cut, others don't.

You run a big company now with thousands of consumers.

Yes, we said, consumers. But a few, the elitist pro here can change for professionals if you feel more comfortable.
We are artists anyway. It's always better than to be ONLY professionals. Sorry.

Because we're talking about our own lifes. We don't work 8 but 16 hours per day. We know very well what this does mean.

You need profit. We need margin for our budget. It's perhaps to buy or not to buy.

We don't need things we will not use. Higher than a full frame sensor, for example.

We don't want the market rate as any major company out there ala Sony, Panasonic, Canon, Arri or rental prices ala Panavision :cold: or Dalsa (who?);
that's why our bet has been your company.

We need useful features. Money is one of them. The more affordable the more we can buy. Please, do not forget this has made the Red One success.

Thanks for listening,

FG... point taken and well understood.

Jim

And "no" to the pink body...:angry2:

Jim

lol. :)

Jim... there might come a day when you are so going to regret that moment of weakness and "drunken" euphoria from months of hard work and finally letting out the big secret, you caved in and Mr. Red went "Mr. Pink" for a night. (at least it was among friends)

And there's a snapshot too.

oh boy! :)

Many of your questions have already been answered somewhere. It is hard for us to answer all questions, let alone the same question several times. Including the fact that the cameras will NOT be glossy.

Jim

Oops Sorry, think that includes me.
I found the thread on fly-by-REDwire
Thanks
J

Your best post yet.

P.S. Try to go up from here. :bleh:

We don't need things we will not use.

This is one of the reasons I am attracted to RED's products.
As an indie film maker ... I don't need to shoot at 3K or 4K or higher. 1080p is more than enough and only a small amount of my work has ever been projected.

But the price points Jim sets means that better technology is within reach. Rich images, shallow DoF, high resolutions. So glad I sold my SD canon before the 13th.
These are very exciting times for a super low budget film maker such as myself.

I may not use all those features that come with a 2/3 scarlet, but what a chance to learn!

Higher features are welcome. Should Red be like Sony and limit features to rate them higher?

Jim

Could Red offer a 3K; s35; up to 120 @ 2k @ an affordable price or is it a dead issue. Don't get wrong, I like what I see but I really think Red could go further even if its at the expense of the Red One. We have to move on from the Red One and allow technology to move forward at an even more aggressive price point, which will cement Red in a dominate position in the market.

To Jim and the Red team - I just wanted to add my congratulations to those of everybody else. As a professional photographer and amateur film maker, I am VERY impressed with what I have been seeing here over the last few days. Keep up the good work.

To Jimmie the RED, Jar-RED & all the RED heads holed up at Casino RED, thanks for the 360 renders.... great stuff! -- this is going to be very cool!

I agree that all of them are welcome.

The features should not be limited. It can happen for highend protection reasons. But this can throw away the whole market brought for Jim with RED ONE. Well, maybe not the whole market. A significant part, I'm afraid.

High end protection is Sonys game.

Don't let the renders fool you, the 617 is actually a very big camera.

Here is the first image of the new RED EPIC 617 in action:

You can easily make out Jim and Jarred operating the camera. Graeme is the one with the beard.
