  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

more renders...

Scarlet 3K 1-120 FPS 2/3" Mysterium-X with fixed 8X RED lens and full "Fly-by-REDwire"

could be the next RED great successful product on the market.

Count maybe about 10s of thousands sold in a year.

Thanks Jim.

Hey, just an idea

It might be simple enough and worth the work to try to make these monitors swivel. I am talking about the ones such as the one you have in this latest Fixed Scarlet render. It allows you to frame while being able to instantly shove the camera into the weirdest places.

I really like this new concept and designs. But since Arri is asking over 200K for the D21 and you´re already doing your best to piss them off, I´m wondering why isn´t Red offering a mirror shutter/optical viewfinder Epic option.
Also wondering if they haven´t offered you to buy the company. They did it with Moviecam as far as I know.

Seriously speaking congratulations !.

With the fold down screen, and by removing the horizontal handle, this rig could almost be compact.

This is the best I could do. This is a copyright image and I do not wanted it copied and posted anywhere because some dope will think we are actually making this... :-)

GAY/Lesbian cinema is HUGE, you might have a market for these!!!! :-)

can the 617 be made to function without a standard lens mount - like some medium format digital backs - so that you just put it behind any kind of vintage large format lens, tilt and shift bellows, pinhole contraption or the adobe insect eyes

The PINK One... Yuck.

Good self-irony though.

Jim, I hate to bother you because I know how incredibly busy you and your team have been. Thank you for all the amazing things you guys are doing to revolutionize the industry!

One thing I ask you to keep in mind are photojournalists/reporters working in remote locations who need small/lightweight portable rigs. I just spent the past 9 months in Iraq with a team of Combat Cameramen and would have killed for a dual camera like the one pictured above. The only thing that worries me about the above photo is lack of audio. All we need (along with the majority of photojournalists working in the field) is XLR audio and the I/O module seems like too much additional bulk and extra weight for the additional features I don't need like HD-SDI, timecode, sync, etc. (These are primarily features ideal for studio work and controlled action)

Now the power behind modules is that this is something you guys can hopefully develop later on as I know you already have enough on your plate. Just something to keep in the back of your head as you move forward. Ideally it would be a built in stereo mic module to collect nat sound with dual mini-xlr inputs. Maybe this is just me though... Thanks for listening!

P.S. Is that an LCD mounted on top to replace the viewfinder? If so does it rotate when you shoot landscape to portrait? Thanks again for everything you all do!!!

Anyone care to share knowledge on what full "Fly-by-REDwire" means?

Thanks Jim.

I feel the same. I hope you at least continue to sell the current LCD's. When I am operating I am never directly behind the camera like that. My AC is never directly behind camera. This type of mount would be useless to me or my AC when the camera is on my shoulder. And I love the freedom of an LCD on an arm so I can quickly adjust height and angle when my short Director wants to stand next to camera and watch the LCD. Oh yeah and the current LCD will cost as much as the 2/3" Scarlet brain.. haha

Based on the camera body measurements that are in the brochure, as best as I can tell, this whole setup is probably about 5" across by 7" high. That's pretty compact.

From a stills photography point of view the secondary shutter/handle (for portrait shooting) is a great idea but in this render it appears the center of the lens opening would be off center and that could affect the balance/feel of the camera, especially if you hang something like a 70-200 lens on it.

If this is going to be a true DSLR killer it needs to handle well, like a fine sports car. It needs to be able to be used with just one hand.

I don't want to be negative about any of the ideas/concepts presented so far. I REALLY want this modular approach to work. It is so inspired.

That means you have no more info for a while?

Remember that like the wind, with RED, everything is subject to change at any time. So they will speak more when the wind is steady. :sorcerer:

Hey JIM or JARRED -

Can I use the images and .mov files to put together a fan video? if so, can I post the completed video on youtube or vimeo? Or some place that redusers can view if they so want?

I'm too inspired to not do something creative with your inspired products.

Can we see it 1st? And "no" to the pink body...:angry2:

Many of your questions have already been answered somewhere. It is hard for us to answer all questions, let alone the same question several times. Including the fact that the cameras will NOT be glossy.

I believe instead that this particular design it will be literally the killer of many cameras all together, I for one as a Pro Photographer for almost twenty years, can't believe my eyes on what has just been offered to us by RED, this particular Brain modularity system actually will be far better the even the 1Ds or the H3D bodies, and as far the balancing is concern, having shot hand held with the 1Ds/Ef 400 f/2.8L IS I say that even the off set of RED lens design is not a bad thing at all and you can make your own center of gravity by the way you place your accessories, I have been doing it for years, and now RED will be doing half the job offering the various and various ways of rigging up your camera to the best fitting of your individual needs.

Totally in LOVE with the design and truly hope it stays as is or changes very very little.

ciao
