  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

More HDRx...

And keep in mind that THE SEARCHERS was shot on a Vista Vision.

I can't even imagine to long about the possibilities of using HDRx with Scarlet and Epic FF35 VistaVision!!!!!!!!!!:hurray:

Well, of course, that's true, Rob. But I doubt they "blacked out" the interior. That's just naturally what it would look like with no artificial lights on the inside, given the brightness of the exterior. Jim should have snapped a photo of that same barn scene with a well-known DSLR, just as a point of reference.

I have shown or sent that image to precisely 25 people today. Obviously they don't get it immediately. Then they stare at it for another 5 minutes, reflect on their last shoot with blown out indoor to outdoor daylight shots, then gone wowwww!!!
The best is my good old colorist buddy who is on this forum right now, constantly ridiculing the shortcomings of a digital image (although the Red has paid for his mortgage this whole year "punk"). He will be building a coffin for film this week. This is incredible, absolutely marvelous.
Jim, forget what I said about taking your time with the Epic'c production, we need this camera now, now, now.

Jim's heartfelt reactions are being driven by sheer exuberance in the realization that this is a milestone, the combined result of passion in creating imaging technology the world has never seen with the pride in his team for pushing the boundaries beyond what was thought possible. His quest in creating a professional world standard in camera design is coming to fruition, a no compromise approach that has put the company behind schedule more than once in an effort to continually improve, continually move forward, while becoming more than just a competitive product in a competitive landscape, but instead, a revolution that advances the art.

What a great post Big Jon!

You can count companies like RED on one ... finger.

Oh.My.God. After decades a vagabond drifting through the vast forest of pretense and mimicry, cinematography is at long last home.

I was expecting this to happen, but never so soon. Would I ever be seeing such images come out of a movie camera this side of the decade...

My mind is racing through possibilities.. The Architecture, the Women, the Landscapes. And I cannot stop. This is triumph for storytelling in all of its forms. These are the images artists dreamed of for centuries. Now in Motion.

Wow. Insane. WOW. This is ridiculous.......

Most impressive Red footage (or any camera footage) ever posted!! This changes everything!

Red has placed the monolith, and we are the monkey-people about to touch it.

What if???
Wow....
So will HDRx™™ work in still mode?
Is that a framegrab from moving footage?
I wonder if I could shoot panoramas with a Scarlet?
I shot this pano with a Nikon D200 and a 10.5 Nikkor...
7 exposures - 6 around and one up - Nadir shot is done manually.
Video panoramas are the next big thing....I think Scarlet would work quite nicely!!!!

HDR mode for stills will blow you away.
No limits like other cameras.
Don't even get us started about HDR timelapse :)
(Tom, move along, nothing to see here... :)

Very impressive. I know a couple people who might want to try night sky timelapse, Deanan. I remember seeing an image from the Thompson GV Infinity camera which claimed 23 stops. That camera seems to have never surfaced though, or at least I haven't heard about it in a while. Here is their test shot released a while back. Notice the visible filament. (I'm just assuming this is legit) Seems like HDR× could duplicate this shot?

I've held off on commenting and I hope you take this as the compliment it's intended to be. Fact is it doesn't surprise me much. Red has been blowing minds for so long now that nothing you and the Red team does really surprises me anymore. I'm just glad I'm in stage two and have been a believer from the start.

Oh...and take your time and get it right. We'll be waiting.

Mr. Jannard,

I generally read posts, not write them. The Vegas footage was astounding, but what you've created is simply breathtaking, and yes, will change cinematography and the still world forever. If only the time I spent in a barn playing in a college band would've been half as fruitful as your latest barn footage.

Although I haven't been shooting as long as you and your associates, I have been in several near-impossible situations with some of the best broadcast cameras. I can honestly say that I have found no filter, no camera, no help in post, and no combination of all of the above that could possibly give an end result that matches what you're camera is starting with.

I dream of owning an Epic. I can't even talk clients into renting one of the two Red 1's in the Charleston area. That means I'm doing something wrong. Workin' on it.

I voted yes for HDRx for Scarlet. I can't afford to make a move right now, but I will someday. Not interested in the fixed lens. For the price and your history of glass, I'm much more excited about creating a fly pack with the 35s, or even 2/3 interchangeables. I will own a Red camera.

I took a few days off after the last wave of negativity on the recon posts. Even though I scanned 38 pages of posts on this thread, I'm so relieved that you and the Red team aren't as easily discouraged. To say your latest is groundbreaking just doesn't do you justice.

Please keep up the incredible work, and don't the haters get you down.
