  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Monstro sweet spot temp?

I don't see any difference between 40C and 48C.

The only point to change the Fan temp -> Calibration temp is to have a quieter Fan (if set to 46C) or a cooler camera and electronics (if set to 40C).

That's what I found too.

Any difference in image quality I saw across the range of available temps was so subtle (if there at all) it was never likely to be noticeable beneath all the other image variables being applied/dealt with.

I think it's mostly about setting your target temp to suit your ambient environment, with something in the mid 40's often being recommended as the sweet spot because it gives you most leeway up or down (warmer or cooler) across the range of temps available.

In some cases during the height of summer, I find the fans still running full blast to keep the temp at 46°C, while in winter it just makes the camera take longer to get up into the green after starting up.

The different RED sensors (MX, Dragon, Helium etc.) are designed to run at slightly different temps, but they're all still within the same range of temps available in camera.

Here's another discussion on the topic - http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?161303-Ideal-temperature-35C-40C-42C

Not sure about Helium/Gemini/Monstro, but didn't Dragon actually have sensor *heating* (from cold start) to attain/maintain best results?

Also what I heard, but in my tests I don't see better noise results with higher or lower sensor temp. The mandatory thing is to have the right callibration map.

Noise is strikingly similar but it seems a smigde warmer (color shift wise) with 48 vs 40...
