  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Monochrome EPIC...

Well... I have seen it for myself 1st hand. This combo is incredible. Truly.

Native ISO 2000. The tonality is incredible... as is the latitude. Wow.

The apparent resolution is off the chart due to using every pixel for luminance. Shooting 2K at 300 fps is a religious experience. 5K is something I can hardly describe.

This one is not a toy. Get your hands on one and shoot it. It will change your world.

Jim

I dare you to make a colour version. :)
You can head lock me, next time you see me..:nads:

PS.. anyway of creating a 50asa chip? or internal ND.
Love you work man.

Noise in the shadows of the jpeg? Sometimes I want to shoot myself in the back of the head.

I have to say I was expecting someone to say that this is the most noise-free image they have ever seen. It never occurred to me that someone would say it has noise in the shadows.

Regardless... this is the most noise free image I have ever seen. ISO 2000! The tonality is terrific and I only wish I could shoot stuff like this on a regular basis. The EPIC Monochrome is a fantastic tool. One you should experience yourself.

I think sometimes people mistake the floaters in their eyes for noise in the image.

Ha ha. Great reply, Jim. Those images are beautiful. If ever we need monochromatic imagery...

Thanks for everything. (Got our discounted Scarlet today...LOVE it along with our Epic.)

I wanted to so bad Jim, but I am a Frick of Color, Vibrant Saturated Colors that is, and hope that DRAGON, will deliver all of that and more, not that I am not happy with the current MX sensor, I mean, every time I see a blow up of it I fill like a little American girl and first words that pops in my head are... OMG... ;)

So I can only imagine what DRAGON will bring.

The Monochrome is a specialty tool, and if it is this insanely good now, I just can't think of what it will be on a DRAGON sensor with the new ASIC's, I might just have to buy one or two and make my next movie with it, written specifically to make use of the beautiful B&W Tones, which in truth I have been thinking on making "RAPE of a BEAUTY" in B&W with Monochrome EPIC's... So we'll see, I think I need to visit you guys in Cali... If only I had time... But We could always use Fedex to Rome and back for a Skin Tones test against the San Pietrinos and Ancient Roman Architecture... ;)

I'm my younger days I would have bought it, to have on the shelf for the once every 5 years I get asked to shoot black and white... Why because I could... but now I have way to many cameras in boxes gathering dust unfortunately.

But seriously, I have a job in December that is all shot at night in and the client has asked for black and white. I'm very very temped to try and find one of these things and use it.

Ill keep you posted.

No...

Now move away from the gun.

take a breath. It's a comment from some kid that doesn't know any batter... breath... in .. out.. in .. out..

I just don't think he realised it was purposely pushed so bright to see where it falls apart in the blacks... at 2000ASA... Looks amazing to me considering the how far you pushed it out.
maybe not best to post shots like this without reasons why you did it. Then you wont get silly comments back.

Re-thinking my prior statement, I think I might actually just go ahed and see if some one at RED wants to visit Rome for few days, I might Rent out a Monochrome Epic to test... ;)

The more I think about it the more I think I will use it for "some of the important scenes in "RAPE of a BEAUTY".

Now looking forward to the Price Drop announcement even more... ;)

Since Ill use it only once a year at best... It will be a RENTAL item for me.

Well, for me since I'll be moving to the far Northern Italian region, were even so it is incredibly and beautifully Green for most of the year, in winter is completely white, covered in deep snow and I don't see a better use for the Monochrome then shooting such sceneries with it.

And I think the students will love it too, so yeah, I think I'll be soon taking a Monochrome Home... ;)
