  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Misc. Update...

Target price for home and grading suite is $10K.

Jim

Seeing Red footage on a 4K projector at NAB was what sold the camera to me. The missing link has been a way to showcase 4K to our clients and this projector is the answer.

Jim, you HAVE to get this out soon PLEASE!!! Any ideas on when it is likely to ship?

Best wishes

Scott

ps. that's you officially off Sony, Christie, NEC, JVC and Barcos' christmas card list

This is great news Jim.

With 4K projection potentially being brought home, how are studios planning on releasing 4K content? I wonder if in addition to releasing a 4K projector, RED releases 4K media player also.

Any work on screen technology too? As much as I would love a nice 4k projector in my apartment... the fact that I don't want to live in a dungeon usually gets in the way.

4K2D and 2K3D...correct?

Anyone can do that ;) seems too easy for Jim. I'm expecting 4K all the way.

Edit: though a 4K/2K laser projector at 10K is still really awesome. :)
Although "home" use? 10K is still pretty steep for most homes. Plus you'll also have to include redray... I'm not complaining just can't afford... yet ;)

Our 3D projector has been seen by many of the top dogs in the industry. It appears, according to them, to be the single best and only way to view 3D... in the home or theater. This is the one. It is a huge leap. Maybe the difference between 3D dying and 3D being mandatory.

REDray is real. After a long development process... REDray will be released this year. It will be the highest quality image with the lowest data rate ever achieved in the history of man. We fully expect it to be the gold standard going forward.

Jim

I knew the moment I read about the contest and the huge projections at 4K that this must mean the projector is coming along. Everyone at nab: expect to see redray and red laser projections...!

Jim,
All sounds great, epic & redray, monstro et al.
What about the red one ? Any plans for it's future.?

Jim,

At NAB in 2008, I shook your hand and introduced myself to you by my RED One camera number. In a week or so, I expect to be able to do the same with my EPIC number.

If I am willing to give up my name for a number in the cause of REDvolution, you needn't ask if I am with you!!

I haven't posted much lately... been pretty busy getting ready to deliver the future... again.

REDcolor3 and REDgamma3 are close... we have had a few tweaks. Expect a firmware release for EPIC, Scarlet and the RED ONE very soon. Also expect immediate support for REDCINE-X Pro and the SDK.

The Dragon sensor is in full development. It will be the dream come true. Trust me.

2012 will be the year of EPIC. So many features are being released that are shot on EPIC it is hard to keep track. I guess this is the year that RED sheds the "scam" moniker. Coming up... The Amazing Spiderman, Total Recall, Prometheus, The Great Gatsby, and The Hobbit... among many others.

Our production facility in Irvine is something that we are so proud of... it breaks all the rules and gives hope to a future beyond China.

Our 3D projector has been seen by many of the top dogs in the industry. It appears, according to them, to be the single best and only way to view 3D... in the home or theater. This is the one. It is a huge leap. Maybe the difference between 3D dying and 3D being mandatory.

We love and appreciate our customers. And it is paramount that we don't disappoint them. We won't.

RED began in 2006 as a garage operation. We had 3 employees. Today there are over 500. Next year there will be over 1000.

Are you with us?

Jim

Jim, Are you guys hiring at the studio? 'WILL WORK FOR RED GEAR'

Jim

As per Mike Most's suggestion to grade on a proper monitor, I've been on the lookout for a passable one for grading. Looks like I've found it.

but now I gotta sell some stuff!

I have thought since it forst was launched that REDRay and deliverycodec would be the next most important invention by RED when released after RedCode.
Especially if RED manages to build some distribution-infrastructure around it prior to release - which I guess has been the main focus for a while

Even Though I have not betted money on it - as I have none - I still stand by that bet! :)
a 10k$ 4k projector for Onlinestudios and home paired with that... Makes me feel all the happier.

Cheers!

Just for the record, which I'm sure both you and any one else knows, that currently the only thing you get for 10k is a 3D capable 1080p projector,
so yeah even at 2k, but LASER and with the quality talked by Jim, oh uyeah definitely a good deal even for home, for those that can afford one of course.

But I sure am hopping 4k/4k, at list on the Commercial one, and I don't care to pay, I'll pay... ;)
