  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Yeah we are discussing that shot and issues about HDRx this week over at our training site fxphd... it is really interesting how 'correct' red is with its advice about shooting HDRx - that shot was done to push those limits and I feel that we simply 'proved' red point of view or recommendations on how to correctly shoot HDRx !!!

Steadicam EPIC

Steadicam EPIC

Does anyone make a steadicam flyer 3 pin power to Epic power lead?
Have you heard of anyone? I am happy to buy one.

There is a steadicam to Red One - and then we could run yet another converter ... but it would be nice if you knew of anyone making a single Steadicam Flyer 3 pin to Epic power lead....

thanks

Mike

Hey Mike

I am sure one of the boys at Lemac could knock something up for you. I have a RED ONE MX and an Archer 2 SE, and the service dept at Lemac have made all of the specialty cables for me so i Can run off the sled. I am running a decimator, Arri Wireless focus/iris rig and an Lectrosonics stereo audio sender along with an IDX cam wave and now it is very lightweight and easy to use.

I believe you are attending the steadicam master class in a month? I will be there with my rig as a student and I would love for you to bring your EPIC so i can see how to fly it as I am in stage 3 and it will be a while before i get mine.

BTW My office is 1 km away from yours so if you want to play some time let me know. Emmy at Future reality will fill you in about me.

Hey Mike,

It's cool you are still working with blue tongue films. next time they should shoot on your epic. looking forward to seeing 'Bear.'

Hey Mike,

I can put you in touch with a genius AC in Melbourne who makes all our custom cabling. He's just ordered the Epic Lemo power connectors for us, so he'd probably be able to hook you up.

Yes I love working with Blue Tongue and there is one EPIC - sort of shot in Bear !!
Plus Nash has promised me he will shoot with the EPIC at some point - I think it's size appeals to him...
I want to see some 300fps stunt work myself

Mike

I have been told the great team at Element Technica can help -we are exploring that now...

thanks everyone

Mike

Thanks I will try that if ET cant deal.

I am also going to swap the SD monitor for an HD - maybe SmallHD HD-SDI monitor... good viewing angle and light weight. Plus I hear good things about SmallHD

Anyone have an opinions on that?

Mike

Hi Mike,
I have a SmallHD DP6/SDI monitor and really really like it. Haven't used it with an Epic yet though.

The DP6-SDI is best in class in all categories except number of buttons.

Alas the lead time on the Epic power connector is now 12+ weeks, so my friend here in Melbourne will not be of use to you in the short term :/

I'd just want to say thanks for sharing. You have filled my evening with much nice moving and still pictures. Love your work.

Hi Mike.
I got off a long TV dual red shoot not long ago and we used the Small HD HDSDI mon as a B cam ref mon for the DP sitting behind the A cam or as a ref mon on the dolly for the grip.

It was lightweight and easy to set up we powered it with a D tap to jack adapter or using 2 X canon batteries either worked great. It was quite durable as we would move it around the set break it off the dolly and on to a car rig as a 5/7D ref mon very fast.

The only thing I will say about it is that very often after changing it from 5 or 7D monitoring back to Red it would not display an image the only way I was able to fix this was by reinstalling the firmware and then playing back footage via HDSDI out of my onset edit suite. Then when plugged back to the SDI feed from the Red it would work fine.

Since you want to use it with your Epic this may not apply to you but just though this could be helpful to know.
Cheers, Nir.

So we have the master cable we needed and a Small HD monitor so this week we will rebuild our steadicam for full EPIC production.

And as we discussed on the RC podcast - I have a master class (as a student) - a week long retreat - coming up with steadicam inventor Garrett Brown and Jerry Holway.
(and boy will this test me !)
BTW this is also coming up in the UK in Sept I think... a great chance to learn from the best, I cant wait to learn from these guys

Assimilate Webinar - I am doing this week (thursday)

This week I am doing a free Webinar for Assimilate on Scratch. I am really keen to build on the stuff done by the Local Hero Post guys last week - but go in a more technical direction discussing colorspaces etc

http://assimilateinc.adobeconnect.com/scratchv6/event/event_info.html

It is free if you want to join in - but you need to register

Phil Balston and myself have worked out all of the bugs for EPIC and steadicam this week.

I will be bringing my Archer 2 to the steadicam course in Robinson as I am attending also.

Will you be bringing your EPIC? As I would like to hire mine out rather than bring it along but I dont mind taking it so let me know as there is no point having two there.

I just posted about this on your thread Adam... yes I will have my EPIC in Robinson ... I am not really renting mine at all... and so yes I will be there with my converted rig
