  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Megan Fox by Greg Williams for Esquire HD shot on R1MX

That does not take away from the good skin tones & DR. Doubt they saved anything by shooting digital, probably not the first or last time either.

So David Fincher is "stupid" just because he wants to shoot digital and waste the money as you said...

But I would say it is more about Saturday Night Fever at the forum writing than anything else...

digital vs. film costs... ooh oooh ooooohhh.. one more drink my dear and favorite waitress, I have to get myself again...:beer::beer:

It's a choice he made, choices are good to have, I don't think money was an issue.

Skin tones can easily look foul on the Red camera as Stephen says. Especially on hot days. And Sanjin I have to agree with him, I hope this isn't the MX sensor because I have high hopes Red have looked at the R1's shortcomings and fixed all of them before settling on a finished sensor design. It's nothing to do with being English either. Choosing to shoot with a camera because you love that company rather than choosing the best camera or format for the shot will never make you a good cinematographer and I say this simply as friendly advice.

The "Rachel Weisz by Greg Williams for Esquire UK in HD" is nicer in my book. Found here: http://vimeo.com/8680516

Skin tones can easily look dull on any digital cam just if you do not to use it properly (work with exposure, filters and so on...)...

Stephen is all the time complaining like an old lady in the supermarket...

Btw., unfortunately I did't shoot with better digital camera than R1 (I dunno which one is better than R1 anyway)

and of course I love the company but still waiting that they could show a bit of love to me (I have some R1 warranty issues,...)...

Benjamin Button is almost "painted/colored" by computer graphic in post to delete all those artifacts from Viper 2/3 noise...

Sanjin

This is absolutely not true. If you understood the part that Lowry Digital played in the "look" of BB you wouldn't make such a statement, as fact. Do a little research and you will find the truth.

Agreed, skin tones can look bad if not shot well, and sometimes in parts of shots it's impossible to handle at all. Look at District 9. Some bits look good, others smack of digital. It's unavoidable in certain situations without going to extremities that belie the purpose of choosing that format in the first place. If the budget's there 35mm off course has nicer fall off on skin tones and the point I was making, and I believe Stephen too (Though I think he enjoys berating you just for kicks :-) ) is that this is another one of those things in digital sensors that need improving upon moreso than resolution and sharpness etc. Red are getting better and better and they are still young as a company. But if they really want to say "here is a better camera to use than any other including film" (And why shouldn't this be their ultimate aim?) they still have a few boxes to tick, one of those being colour. At the moment I'd say the F35 and D21 edge Red on skin tones. Again I hope the MX sensor is another improvement and the greedy part of me hopes it is as big as possible!

Cheers

Michael,

I'll give it try to look at BB tomorrow on dual BB BR disks with extras to have a look again at all carefully...

I can't remind any F35 movie at the moment but must say that for me the skin tones from Rock'N'Rolla were petty ugly (shot on D21)...

Keep in mind that while Blue Ray is amazing it is still compression at 40Mbits/sec.

I'd rather keep looking at Megan and Kate videos a few hundred more times to determine the differences between sensors. :undecided:

Michael,

maybe you are right and anyway I planed to watch DVD about Jenny Holzer than BB sensors search for tomorrow.

Btw., as a part of my "cold winter fitting" about the girls like a Megan, Kate and Rachel I have fixed a jogging hour for tomorrow in Belvedere Gardens... :hurray:
