  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

May Update... The month of Raven

When do you expect to have allocated all the day-one orders of the Raven? Obviously the ones that stuck with the Raven :)

No. I grew up reading Fitzgerald's The Great Brain books... so to me he's The Great Brent. ;)

Haha, flattery gets you everywhere. Loved those books as well…

A RAVEN brain sorry ;) ... Brent knows everything! ah :bath:

Nov 12 timestamp, probably June.

By end of this month. Day two as well, most likely…

Ok, don’t each person start asking me “Can I get an estimate, too?” I don’t have enough hours in the day for that.

But I think by my replies to certain folks with their rough ETAs, you can piecemeal an estimate for yourself….

I really appreciate the answer Brent :) Ok let's rent some scarlet-WWWWWW :)

I really love RED cameras and have not doubt they produced the best cameras right now.

what I find really frustrating is that I don't seem be getting straight information of where I'm in the process.

I went from been allocated, to waiting 3 weeks and then I was told my camera was ready to ship. Then we got the message in this thread " we are going to stop all Scarler-W production lines and only concentrate in Ravens"

Later, an announcement by Jarred said that Scarlet-W production that were paid will continue, but my bomb squad can't tell me now when they will ship the camera, the only information he is giving me is that they are finishing my body and he will inform me when is ready. I understand you guys at RED are not making popcorn but is been a really traumatic and stressful experience trying to solve all the issues this had generated at my end.

I really think the actual RED Process needs to change and you should invoice people ass soon as you have the camera ready to be shipped. What is happening to me is not right and I hope doesn't happen to anybody else.

Now I can only dream to get a tracking number for my birthday next week.

If you aren't able to get in touch with your sales rep, PM Brent. They'll most likely get you sorted.

This explains why my PM Inbox fills up every 8 hours : )

Andrey, you are fine. You were allocated and paid up before Jarred's post so you will be processed in May. You do not fall under the pause until June.

Hi Brent,

Do you know if the Epic dragon loaners is disponible for REDEUROPE ? My Bomb squad is awaiting instruction from RED USA.

Thanks

I know you might not be able to tell us how many Ravens were ordered from when it was live on Red.com to just before NAB and/or even now; d/t manual process or d/t competitors.

But, is it possible to tell us how many units you are able to produce in a day or a week?

This is completely nuts.
Brent@RED you are amazing. Mad respect my Man. I worked customer service for 10 years, I have no idea how you do it. Thank you for all you do.

Thanks for the updates Jarred and Brent! Very nice that you're doing these posts every month and answering all the questions. I've been looking at all the pages and you do answer almost everyone, impressive!

Received all the accessories for my Scarlet-W this week... now waiting eagerly for the camera! Can't wait to film my next medieval short on it with epic battles in slow motion! :D

also just mirroring Jasper. Completely overwhelmed to see the attentiveness of Brent and Jarred. It's definitely frustrating to have to wait for our cameras but they've done everything they can to keep us updated.

thanks guys!

Yeah I don't understand this business move either... I guess they are putting their loyal Red customers lower than their relationships with camera dealers..? Can't help wishing I hadn't ordered through Red either.
I don't understand this stance. RED has been treating people who ordered Scarlet-W directly from them worse then switchers and those who ordered from dealers.

Lesson learned, only order from Dealers in the future since they apparently got priority over individual orders.

There is no loyalty involved. Whats so hard to understand?
They are going to go by order date and timestamp. End of story.

If you ordered in November/December, and a Raven to SW switcher ordered a Raven in September... he/she was still in line before you. He has been waiting a lot longer than you for a unit... just cause he/she switched doesn't mean that he/she will go to the back of the line. That was a promise by RED for switching so the stress for RED to create so many Ravens units can be somewhat relieved.

Similarly, if a dealer was number 3 in line, RED will still prioritize to people who are number 1 and number 2 in line.

But at the same time, if the dealer ordered 10 units or 100 units, and you are number 20 in line (first you wait for RED to satisfy those 10 to 100 units), then the people who are number 4 to 19 in line is satisfied. And, if you haven't figured it out yet, if number 21 ordered from the dealer... he is going to get one of the 10 to 100 units that the dealer has in stock, perhaps even before number 4 to 19 get their units. Why is that hard to understand?

I was not aware the dealers ordered a bunch of Ravens up front (then switched). I assumed they just put in orders as they get them. I guess I was mistaken if this is true.

It is still quite confusing though how today a Raven orderer could decide to switch and they would be put in front of my time stamp within an hour of Scarlet W announcement. Unless I misunderstood something there too.

I've directly been told by numerous dealers that part of the reason it could be faster to order from them is because they have contracts with RED, such that RED is obligated to fulfill a certain number of shipped cameras to them by set dates and that this gives them priority over individuals. I've also just straight up had dealers tell me they got priority.

Is any of this true? No idea, but it's a little shocking that so many dealers I've spoken to came out and said this to me.

This could be true, but then again... a dealer will tell you anything to get you to buy it from them... because they are making money from the sale, right?

Speaking of which, there are a couple of threads in the Raven section of the forum .
Look at the allocation threads and the "Retailers first" thread.
Most people who have ordered their Raven from Red.com on the first day, have already received their orders, I think people on day 2 are receiving theres now...
Some of them have ordered through Retailer, see that "Retailers first" thread... we haven't heard anyone receiving theirs yet from the retailers.

Here is the thing, the price difference between SW and Ravens is not much, around $5K.
But that $5K is a lot of money to the low end independent filmmakers, especially those that are coming from a DSLR background.
I'm sure the Raven orders are in the 10s of thousands if not 100s of thousands, whereas the SW should be in the 1000s...
Imagine fulfilling 100s of thousands, as opposed to 1000s? Everything hand made... and hand tested...
Now imagine you on the receiving end, who ordered in September being told that the SWs are being fulfilled first... but if you switch... you will be first in line.
I'm sure those that can't afford that extra $5K stayed with Raven, but are steaming that the SW people are being fullfilled first, because that was announced much later too.

People who ordered from dealers have received them, but nobody who directly ordered with a December 10th timestamp has come forward that I have seen. Since RED doesn't release what timestamp they are working on, I can't see how you would know otherwise unless you've seen a post that I haven't.

Keep in mind that not every Red customer is a member of, or even posts on, Reduser. Crazy talk, I know! :) Over the years, several Red owners I know post less and less on Reduser as they are busy working.
