  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

May Update... The month of Raven

As a veteran queue watcher (Paid deposit for one R-1 in April 2006, another deposit for R-1 in June 2006... cameras received August 2008) let me just say I FEEL YOUR PAINS!!! that's all... no words of wisdom, no secret shortcuts, no personal chill regimen... just I FEEL YOUR PAINS!!!

Hope that helps. '-)

ha! that's amazing, thanks for some perspective.

Cameras are shipping, no dispute about that. But the keyword that is in demand right now is 'adequate quantities'. When can RED turn the corner on satisfying the huge, outstanding number of orders, realistically in 2016?

cameras ARE pouring out, just not to people on reduser, i see new posts everyday on other social media of their cameras just arriving.
there just must be a mountain of orders besides the people that are on this forum.

^ THIS. Just because orders aren't being paraded around on REDuser (but thank you to all those that have been doing so) doesn't mean they aren't going out.

Elsie, thanks for that memory. Oldie but goodie. To our benefit, it was bit more of a house party. Jim was famous for the end of week Sunday wrapup or 'here's how it going thread.' Also, a number of the early adopters were constantly shooting information back and forth, i dare say alot more test footage was available to muse over. All of that seemingly, made the waiting time more palatable. Also, I think the shipping order was straight serial numbers at that time. So, you kinda always knew how many cameras were in front of you.

But good times and always worth the wait for sure.

I suspect that they won't, unfortunately -- I don't think they expected so much demand. For Red 500 cameras is a lot. For the likes of an A7SII, Sony is probably making and shipping more than that weekly.

That's right...and the orders for Raven are a shit ton more than that.

The price increase at NAB probably caused a second surge or orders on top of the original surge, too. Makes me glad that I ordered early, but it wasn't quite early enough.

And the update 2017 delivery window on new Raven orders certainly discourages the strategy 'I'll wait it out until the dust settles'.

That's right. Mine was one of them. I ordered a Scarlet-W on the first day, and a Raven on the last day before NAB! Eventually I will get both, but RED was kind enough to loan me an Epic Dragon and I have been cranking that thing every day. Fantastic piece of gear....

RED has the best price, feature, product-line proposition in the video camera business right. So really all of this is their fault, squarely.:smile5:

Hopefully they'll be able to get caught up on Scarlet-W orders soon... I working on getting some shoots booked. My rep did say he'd try to arrange a loaner for me in case mine wasn't ready in time, but he also seemed confident that it would be, so I guess I'll be finding out soon, one way or another.

I wonder if RED has looked into manufacturing in China and making RED HQ solely as a service center? RED is only going to continue to grow and dominate and now there are going to be more RED's in the field than ever. They would also be able to bring the price down over time....but I doubt that would happen.
And before someone brings up a comment about maintaining quality and crappy quality coming out of china, just keep in mind. EVERYTHING Apple makes comes from China and they seem to be doing juuuust fine with quality control and massive number of products they make.

I hope that doesn't happen. I think it's fantastic that they build all their cameras in California. I commend them for that. Doing the right thing is not always the easiest thing...

I agree. Nice to know they're produced locally - like 1 hour from my house.

Even the popular Raven won't be anywhere near the volumes that are needed for proper manufacturing in China.

Just hoping they are in earthquake-proof surroundings... If/when the big one hits I don't want to go through another camera delay like from the Japan tsunami that broke the supply chain for an important part.

someone just announced their raven allocation just came in today, so still pumping them out!

I'm just hoping for July at this point.. (Unofficially) they're allocated to around 48 on the Raven queue.. And I'm #89. I know Red is working hard and putting in effort, so it's silly to insult, whine, and etc. but I do understand the frustrations of my fellow redusers of being so close but so far away.
