Matte box and rods you all are using?

Thank you all this community is truly awesome. So I'm using a Fotga DP500 III system leftover from my Blackmagic Setup. It doesn't quite fit the Komodo, so was curious what matte box are you all using? I don't even know that I need the rods anymore cause I had my VMount on there before but seeing that I have a Vmount that hooks right into the camera. Anyway, you all have been so knowledgeable and helpful.

i am using as lightwaight clip on Bright Tangerine Misfit (first model) and as studio MB i am using 30 yers old Panavision adapted to take BT backs.

I use a Tilta MBT12 with clip-on backs. I do keep a rod setup mostly for follow focus, and it’s also good for when I don’t have the right matte box back to clip to a particular lens.

Bright Tangerine are great for this purpose, as are the Arri lightweight series. I avoid polar pro because it doesn’t take standard cinema stuff, but could be an option if you need to be super lightweight and don’t care about using rental house stuff with your setup.

Totally dependent on what lenses you are using most of the time. Cine lenses, a light clip on makes a lot of sense, Goofy still lenses of vintage cine lenses, rod mount makes more sense, maybe a lens shade and screw ons are the best bet,. Really depends though.

Bright Tangerine Misfit clip on, but we only use stills lenses. . . and nothing longer than 135mm at that.

Fascinating journeys on this front over the last couple decades. Particularly when it comes to rods.

I think notably going from stainless steel rods to aluminum to carbon fiber, hitting every single reason why carbon fiber rods are not ideal for many situations, going into titanium rods for a bit, and circling around back to stainless steel for the last year or so has been a rollercoaster.

As of today only use stainless steel and titanium for shorter rod lengths.

Matte boxes. I have boxes suited for different styles of shooting with the most compact and most travelled with being the Bright Tangerine Misfit Atom. Great to have one in a pinch. I use their Kick more often. My big boy box is the Chrosziel Cine.1 MB 565 which I reserve mainly for indoor stage/studio shoots. I still own an OConnor OBox WM, but it's a bit heavy for what it is, but also nicely built.

I use the Misfit kick a lot these days, especially with the Raptor since I don’t yet have the proper risers to get the right lens height. I also have a couple Vocas Matt boxes, love them, the big swing away version is great in larger builds and studio type set ups.
