Ok so I'm fairly new to the beyond 2K world and I'm wondering... It there a happy medium to doing your final master DCP in 3K vs. 2K or 4K?

I am wondering if 4K projectors accept a 3K DCP ? My reasons are simply that I do tend to use 3K a lot when shooting, and since that is the lowest resolution I'd be working with, it would be nice to finish everything in 3K. Also it save on space for the conforming vs. 4K

I just dont like the idea of doing all my work in 3K and above just to bring it down to the 2K world I've been living in for so long... Thoughts?

3k is not a DCP format, and if you shoot 3k, that is what is (at least) needed for a proper 2k finnish...

If you wanna finnish in 3k, shoot 4k, if you wanna finnish in 4k, shoot 4k+

Ok I guess what I meant to say is... why isn't there a 3K standard? I mean technically I CAN make a 3K DCP, just nothing could read it...

Mostly because it's never been a standard. Also the leap from 2K to 3K isn't that dramatic, however, good 4K is noticeable when compared to 2K. When I shoot 3K I upscale and sharpen to 4K. Optically speaking based on a great deal of testing 4K has been a target for some time. Mostly due to S35 film and what it can do when it comes to pure resolution and perceptual resolution.

In terms of debayering, you can make your 3K into a very nice 2k/1080p as well.

I though there was some 2,7K DCP standard or no?

No. The DCP spec calls for either 2K (2048x1080) or 4K (4096x2160). Those are the only two container sizes available. You can fit other sizes into that by cropping and padding in either direction (1.85:1 is delivered as 1998x1080 with padding on the sides, for instance) but the delivered container must be one of those two sizes.

Hmm very interesting, So I guess its wiser to upres 3K shots to 4K if my other work being mixed with it is 4K too. I just really didn't wanna be stuck in a 2K DCP any more, and I want to utilize the extra information I now have.

I typically work with a 4K finish in mind. Depending on what the delivery requirements are from the client or display device is how I proceed. For work that I control I try to create the highest quality master possible for archival and future use. I don't want to go back to a finished project to remaster if I can avoid it.
