  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Marques Brownlee checks out the Red Raven

Uhhh.. Black be bad.

Scarlet grey looks cheap to me. Too much contrast to all of the black components. I like the look of Raven more than Scarlet for that reason. Plus light grey is more relective in a shot.

A darker grey would be better... Black woul be best. Battle ship grey is too light. But this ship has sailed I'm afraid...;)

You can always paint it black :-))

Right. And watch it chip...and look even worse.

It's not a big deal. It's what it does that matters. It just an aesthetic thing. Panaflex bodies where grey too, with almost cream colored 1000 foot mags. But that had a function... To keep the film stock from heating up too much in the hot sun.

I wish Red would shoot intro/overview videos that showed all of the new cameras, monitors, aks, etc and how they look and function on the Camera. It would help us make more informed buying decisions. I don't need a video showing me how a module attaches. What would be great would be a series of videos demonstrating how the RED system works together in real world production environments... Show us the key features of each piece of the kit and why you designed it the way you did, etc.

WC does that in a demo/nerdy way but it's very helpful.

I'm sure you guys could do a better job ;)

? What's your point? You think grey costs less than black? Not. It's about marketing and differentiating a product line. Nothing more.

+1 for this

As a potential newcomer to the RED world, I too would benefit much guidance from such videos. And I believe there will be a lot new red users with the Raven.

I think red should just buy WC and get it over with. :)

You guys are missing the big opportunity - as soon as I get my scarlet-w I'll be making a bunch of videos about the experience, workflow, etc. That is the biggest advantage of getting the cam early in my eyes.

++++1!

As a potential Raven or Scarlet-W owner, I also wish they had complete overview videos of each module and part.....and the system menus! I for one will be making a ton of overview videos once I receive mine to help other people with the same problem.

I am beginning to reallize the value to RED in making more affordable cameras. Canon users have been so limited on what the cameras output that just giving them this choice, along with in camera ProRes will turn alot of heads and there are a lot of Canon users out there.

Couldn't agree more. I've had 3 consecutive Canons, and I'm done. Scar-W is a game changer. Can't wait.

My point was that. Don't know how long you've been with Red. It seems to be changing anyway. Ill probably die supporting it, as I have defended it for a long damn time. I personally hate 'tiered product lines' or whatever you call it. Quality should be a standard, not trickle down to less.

So yes, buying a camera, wish it was like the advertisements, a cool darker gray. Not a big deal, but see above. Noone should be looked down upon, especially when they have a camera that burns the hell out of everything (Everything).

Really don't want a discussion.

The ads and the video are all the same color... The grey looks different under different light... Sometimes it photographes dark, sometimes it photographs light .

Ha ha. Same discussion when the first scarlet came out.
