  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Not just reframing, digital zooms too. If I remember correctly, Fincher talked about that in the director's commentary to two of his latest movies.
 
I love how you held the camera in your fingertips! Try that with any other 8K RAW camera - oh wait, you cant.

The only thing you didn't mention as an aside was ProRes.

I also agree with what you said about lenses - to a point. Other DPs say the same thing, no matter what camera they're using.

Yes, that is very useful. I know of an ad shot on a Dragon 6K which applied that very technique. I'm not sure why you'd use any other digital camera for commercial (or TV) productions.
 
The LAST time Mark Toia made a film about his camera choices...it cost me a shit ton of money!!! :furious3: STOP IT MARK TOIA......
 
If Mark's testimony does not inspire people to look at RED cameras seriously, I don't know what would.

Does anyone know what laptop he uses to edit with?
We currently have quite old apple mac pro, but they have too few usb and the GPU is just a bit too slow for my liking.

Great video, but I'm also wondering about the laptop. I've never been able to do real Red post production on a laptop without either working in slow motion or burning out my graphics card. I can barely edit with Premiere set to proxy mode and doing any kind of compositing with high resolution just crash everything. So I'm always wondering what laptops are even able to handle Red workflow in a way that's actually viable as a professional choice. I do everything on my Desktop and without a Rocket card it's still sweating even though I have Titan X and everything.
 
He's able to edit on a laptop because he uses fcpx on his mac book pro ... it's really that simple guys . Get with the revolution .

What interest me is his Using the pencil / stylus with fcpx . I never knew that could happen. Interesting ...

Apple should post this on their website, lol. Lots of plugs in this video, lol (iPhone , fcpx )

I know there is a lot of push back here on this...but it is because he uses FCPX. That software is optimized for the hardware it runs on. Really, the result is greater than the sum of the parts.
