Red rock....!

I'm gonna be honest, I don't see why this video is great. Yes, of course, technically and photographically, but it's the kind of pointless sexualization of woman and men's club stuff that keeps women from wanting to get into this industry or as young girls grow up with a damaged self-image. Sorry to be the fun guy at the party but there's been enough of these kinds of videos and I would suggest thinking on the deeper consequences of these things.

I have to agree with Christoffer, here. On a formal level, strictly from a craft point of view these are well executed exposures, framing and color. But it really shows how normalized our society is with minimizing women into sex objects. This ferish of naked woman on a beach is, well, I'm not sure if this is the right word for it, but, trite? Problematic?

Im not trying to shame the op or anything. Nor am I the final arbiter of morality. Not everything we create has to be uplifting or critical. But why does most of it have to make women into little more than sex dolls. Ok, rant over, sorry if that rubbed anyone the wrong way.

well this is mostly a technical forum, lets not make another thread like the rap music video one a couple weeks ago! ;)

I think you guys should get off your high horse, there's nothing offensive, oppressive or degrading about this video. You think it's objectifying her just because she's naked and beautiful? Oh and just because she's in the nude on the beach she's a sex doll? I Don't think there's anything to be ashamed of here and if this were my sister mother daughter wife etc. I wouldn't have any issues with it, in fact I would be very proud of them. I think the nude human form is spectacular and something to be appreciated (ESPN body issue, Michelangelo's statue of David...) especially when it's somebody as beautiful as Isabeli Fontana. The video is tastefully made and it's not vulgar in any sort of way

Take it easy, bud. No need to be hostile. If the video is tastefully made or not is only a matter of opinion. You are definitely welcome to yours. As I said previously, I'm not trying to shame the OP, and I'm not the arbiter of morality...so not on any "high horse" or anything. Just my critical assessment of the images that were brought up for discussion. You are entitled to your point of view and I respect that. But whether the video is offensive or objectifying or whatever else is in the eye of the beholder. None of us can speak objectively about what it is or isn't on any universal way for everyone. So I appreciate you speaking for yourself. But again, no need to be rude.

I too don't want this thread to go down the road of insults. But I welcome conversations about the roles of images in our society and communal psyche. After all, that is the domain of filmmaking. Although I've heard more than once that this is a technical forum, so perhaps the theoretical, social, rhetorical, narrative and psychological aspects of filmmaking may not be so much the focus of this forum? Either way. Opinions are opinions. They can be expressed respectfully.

+1

Was this shot by a 14 year-old boy? Puerile nonsense.

And, I'll also add, I think Red is an awesome company in so many ways, but I think it's time to take a long hard look at things like "Weapon", "Bomb Squad", the skull logo, etc and the macho bullshit connotations that come along with it.

The first two Helium-shot pieces we've seen out of the gate are about boxing and naked woman on a beach. Come on! We can do better than this, surely!

We have an extreme diversity problem in the film industry, and afaic, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. And anything that any of us do to make filmmaking feel like a boys club with no girls allowed is definitely part of the problem.

abreu-canedo, if my comment offended you so be it, you are also entitled to your opinion but I can't say that I respect it. P.S. my name isn't bud it's David Grigorian.

Nice video but reminds me of the early Ridley and Tony Scott marble man cigarette commercials.

There's nothing directly or obviously oppressing, offensive or degrading about underwear commercial posters put up around town either, but if you don't see the connection between girls self-image growing up and the sexualization of females in media, then you do not know much about gender topics. I would recommend reading up on how it all connects, the psychological effects for society etc. I'm not talking about the models in these videos, I'm talking about girls and women being exposed to these kinds of videos or commercials all day long. It will have an effect on them and not understanding that is just ignorant.

This is a shot by the father of this daughter, who couldn't do anything to keep her from being exposed to this image every day she walked to school. I'm not a father and does not have any daughters but I don't need to be overly intellectual to understand the deep consequences this have on girls and women.

I don't know, to me this only shows the common low level execution of fashion films. Still photographers that thinks it´s enough with a girl striking poses towards a camera. To me it does not hold up. Pretty pictures yes, beautiful girl yes, nice location yes. But all in all, the motion image format is not really utilised at all, To me it looks like a motion for stills shoot that somebody made a film of.

Simply I think that setups that holds for a still shoot does not necessarily hold up for motion... but if somebody shows nipples anything flies I guess.

???
We are all free to shoot what we want. Most guys like sports and women. Give a guy a new camera for a personal project and he'll probably shoot what he likes. So it's not surprising that those filmmakers chose sports and women. I don't see how you classify one subject as "better" than another.
