  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

but i've been waiting over a year for my 8k upgrade on my cf weapon to be allocated...
will i be online to see this? yes... do i think it will be delivered anytime soon?.... i wont hold my breath.

I don't know what this will be, but I'm guessing that it's 100% consumer-oriented. There's no reason to do such a big announcement for more professional-grade cameras or accessories.

Jim got his start with consumers, and I would bet that this is a return to that. It sounds now like it'll be RED-branded, but beyond that I have no idea.

"The price will allow you to buy more than one" is the most interesting hint, since it implies that you would want/need more than one. A badass cell phone doesn't quite fit the bill here, nor does most photo/video equipment (if we're talking consumer products). TVs, projectors, drones, VR/AR could fit, but even those wouldn't necessarily be things that someone would go out and buy multiples of at one time. It's also not some generic tech (self-driving cars, AI, etc.) since it's clearly a buyable product.

He said it's not about glasses, so if it has anything to do with AR, maybe it's a small device that tricks the eye or brain to see things. In terms of AR that would be revolutionary, but I've not seen any tech development to support that we are even close to such a thing.

Maybe a little box that will track your eyes and beam AR interface to your vision, showing you a screen in mid air etc. That would make large laptops obsolete :tongue_smilie:

Specialized bicycle grips - you usually buy more than one ...... :wink5: or maybe self-driving bicycles.
 
What ever it is, I wish they did it the old fashion style, rounding up the towns people and hold it in the air showing all its glory.. People rejoice.

Mmmmh,

After reading all the guesses and the patents and based on what Jim and Jarred said... My bet is on a sort of camera apparatus which can record 6K footage and that you use by pluging a smartphone to it a bit like a DXO one but on a bigger more "reddish" package. I'm beeing told that DXO is working with RED on something so here it is, my bet !

On a side not : something in the form factor of the Canon XC 15 could sooooo suit my needs. Just saying. :tongue_smilie:

Important questions.

Assuming the product is a Camera, you might help us with prepared questions?

_ Firstly what sort of manual controls full, art, auto, push to auto.

- How much compression, visually lossless?
- can it be completely controlled remotely?

- how many stops latitude, and how much nose a s iso?
 
It's currently 9.45pm on the 6th here in NZ... so it'll happen in the middle of the night... 4am NZ time... and we'll wake up to it. We're always the last to have a chance at placing deposits :(
