Made in California...

I would think that RED EPIC and Scarlet being made in California would be big news... apparently not.

We have set the goal of creating jobs in the US . It is certainly a precedent for us. Apparently this is not big or important news... to the news gatherers.

It appears to be an assumption that everything electronic should be made in China. Why not? Apple is.

I am quite surprised that no big publication seems to be the least bit interested in the fact that there is another option.

No matter.

RED continues to beat its Asian counterparts in every respect.

Designed in CA. Prototyped in CA. Manufactured in CA.

"The Hobbit" "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" "Prometheus" "The Muppets" "The Amazing Spiderman" "Jack the Giant Killer" "Contagion" "Underworld 4" "The Great Gatsby" "Total Recall"....

Whom does one contact at RED HQ regarding such things? You have no clear path to reach anyone for that on the company's website, so it doesn't really make it easy to reach out and say "Hey you guys, I'd really like to do a serious piece about your business...", and for that matter, what kind of access are you willing to give? (Tour of the assembly line, sit-down with yourself and Jarred, Ted, etc., exhibition of 4K footage, and so forth) I know there are publications and media outlets that would be banging down the doors of your armored bunker to do in-depth articles/write-ups/whatever on your company, so you could certainly organize an invite-only media event or whatever and send the message that you want to send.

Hang in there Jim. I think it's bigger news to them than you think. They're still trying to figure you out. You came out of nowhere.
You actually have to get this kind of coverage yourself (RED TEAM). Don't expect the news company to come pounding on your door for something positive.
You have to push the positive stuff in their face. Start by calling someone and giving a great tour, like Pixar does. Mark my words, the same way you started a 4k revolution, You'll start a 'Made in America' ReRevolution.

Jim, your actions speak louder than your words. You have been passionately innovative and have created and attracted an amazing team. You have pressed on because you had a dream. Your dream challenged technical limitations as well as the established giants such as Sony, Panasonic and Arriflex. In an amazingly short time you and team have created not only a series of revolutionary products, you have created an innovative business model that is cretainly worthy of aclaim and replication. It is a model for success. What you and team have done is refered to as exericising "American ingenuity", and the entertainment world will never be the same again. In my opinion what is equally important is your obvious love and loyalty to community, country along with your recognition and appreciation of American manufacturing excellence. You seem to value somethings more than monitary profit. You are a rich man, and it has nothing to do with your bank account. As exciting as your cameras and codecs are, equally exciting and appreciated is "Made in America". Thank you.

It is so sweet that you still think our politicians care about creating jobs in America and by proxy our media. I for one am grateful for both your social conscience and the Epic I will shoot my next film on: THE DAY TRAITOR.

Also It s logical that the company who make their products over your country, in china, india , because they want to make a lot of profits and benefits , but in fact create some poor quality product , and a lot of unemployement in the USA , don t want you to show who they really are and make them feel bad for being some ass hole !

So the lobby who are involed in this delocalisation and poor product quality are not going to make your promotion for this in their news Paper or business friend news paper ........

But we are all with you Jim .

Red is more than a camera , it s a weapon.

RED needs a marketing company savvy with distributing VNR's....
You can try it yourself, you have the cameras already. LOL....
But really, the media won't beat a path to your door.
You have some decent contacts in Hollywood.
Ask some of the trailer companies who their media contacts are.

I know as I said in a previous post (that hadn't had any replies BTW), the fact that you are creating American jobs (manufacturing jobs no less) is very important as well as a point of national pride. I my father worked at Bethleham Steel in Baltimore for 35 years and was proud to be manufacturing the best steel in America. They closed, shipped the plant to China... no jobs, no manufacturing, huge blank space there now.
I sometimes feel no credit is just as good. It's as if you make an anonymous gift. The way I look at it, we all know, the industry knows, you know and your family knows the hard work and dedication to this venture. When I get my Scarlet and hopefully my Epic next year, I will take pride in knowing it was manufactured here in the USA. Thanks Jim and the ENTIRE Red team.

I think the media is pretty slow to pick up on news like this unless it's fed to them by a publicist. I am sure that it will make headlines soon though. It really is extremely impressive that you are able to produce your products domestically and sell them at prices competitors can't even really touch and that's not even getting into how you're leading the industry in terms of innovation. It's amazing what you guys have accomplished in just a handful of years and clearly you are just getting started.

I was surprised Red didn't setup manufacturing/assembly in the Midwest or Southern states,
as automobile manufacturers and parts suppliers often do to reduce "red tape" and production cost.

But by bucking all trends in this Global economy and setting up manufacturing/assembly in California,
I am sure you'll reap the benefits long-term with continuous improvement, great feedback from local productions,
and Big thinking- thinking outside the box (if Epic isn't an example of that anyhow, I don't know what is).

I hope all the local Universities offer internships / partnerships so that you may utilize our college system
talent pool- Human Capital, which is way underutilized currently.

That way, I'd feel better about our tax dollars going to help R&D for American companies
that reinvest locally for a change.

Congrats Red Team, Keep on inspiring us to think and act different!

We also design, prototype, manufacture, and assemble all of our technology in the US.

This is not a chest-beating nationalistic stance, but one of practicality and economics... and some patriotism. ; )

Right now, the majority of our company lives and works in the US. Doing everything here saves a ton of money in shipping and customs, and we do not have time-zone issues in talking to our engineering and development teams. I've worked for companies before where those teams are halfway across the world, and it is incredibly frustrating only having a two or three hour window per day in which to talk to that part of your company. Plus, we want to support our local community - the place where we live, where our kids go to school, and where our lives are. The same reason I try to do most of my shopping in the town where I live is the same reason I want my company to be where I live. The local taxes I pay go to support the local place I live and the local infrastructure I use...

I think most people feel the same way, regardless of where they live. If I was Norwegian and lived in Oslo, I doubt I'd have much incentive to set up a company in Orange County. ; )

It is a HUGE deal. In the teeth of the worst recession in our lifetime, RED is expanding. That is remarkable. You have challenged multinational industry titans and built a market out of your ideas.

The leaders coming out of a recession/depression are never the same as the leaders going in.

It will be huge news, Jim - I think that business reporters are so focused on doom and gloom right now, that there's little room for optimism, just when we need the bright spots most. That will change, eventually.

Do you have a good marketing person on your team? Really good ones are hard to find. And it is one of those things that is hard to do alone. It seems like it should be easier than it is, but it's not. Sometimes you build it, and they will come. And other times, you build it - and then you have to market the shit out of it, or else it's like the proverbial tree falling in the woods.

Although you are a guy who can snap his fingers and an army from all over the world assembles at your HQ, paying for plane tix and hotel rooms, just to hear you speak. So I imagine that you just haven't found the right path to getting your message across yet.

"Obstacles are a part of everything. We embrace them as part of the process."

stamped "Made in USA" and having it actually be as true as can be is one of the most important things right now... hoping you're more of a trend setter beyond just the film industry Jim. The country needs it.

Jim, I think you forgot the best think about building here in the US ... you're providing and creating job for hundreds of people and giving them a chance to provided for their families and contribute to growth of this great nation, and for that i personally want to thank you.

Love your product, but more importantly i love what you guys all around stand for. Really great work.

I like the human side of it. By manufacturing here in the US, I can feel much more assured that the people who work to produce RED products are treated well as employees. The physical and mental well-being of other people is what makes me question purchases from other markets (and even some markets within the US) that are known to have ongoing issues with their treatment of workers.

China makes widges, America makes art..... Red def. falls into the art category.
Actually, China owns the Moon, the ultimate "High Ground". They will put a Man on the Moon in less than Ten years followed by a permanent Moon Base.

Mr Jannard,

I am a proud American, love my country. I agree with you that not enough attention has been paid to the jobs you and your team have created and have kept in America.

So, do what the 21st century tells us to.. Go viral, or let us do it on your behalf..

Edit: USA sounds better than California

So Boss….

What type of publications would you like to see RED featured in?

Is this business publications, industry specific publications like AC or more general pubs/media outlet? Or TV news stories about successful approaches to US innovation that one can build businesses around on US soil.

I find the innovation bit tends to more often than not “trip” up “in the box” formulaic business thinking… even here in the US. So it doesn’t surprise me that people and organizations from certain quarters don’t get it… [To me this is more of a good indication or metric that one IS doing things right that they don’t seem to get it…].

What would you really like (to see in print etc.)?

Best,

Eric
