  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

MacRumors: Apple's New 8-Core Mac Pro Shows Up in Benchmarks

Bingo.

Unlike Mike - I'll go ahead and make a prediction.

Lineup starts at $1,999.00

It is far more realistic that you will see lower than anticipated prices on the new MacPro in a Can.

There was a lot of wildly optimistic guess work going on in this thread. The news today shows in reality this is a costly machine... not a surprise.

I guess that
+) An entry level 8 core Mac Pro will appear at $3k (32GB of RAM + 512GB Flash).
+) An entry level 12 core Mac Pro will appear at $3.5k (32GB of RAM + 512GB Flash).
+) A maxxed out 12 core Mac Pro will appear at $8k (128GB RAM + 4TB Flash)

Right sort of price point - but no cigar for nailing the specs!

i think Apples message is clear - Software writers need to rewrite for OpenCL, and maybe even multiple GPUs if they want to compete in the performance stakes. Hopefully - new GUI will include 4k ready GUIs that means no magnifying glass requied to use it ;)

I wonder what the real world performance of 4 cores + 4 TFlops vs 12 cores & 7 TFlops is going to be for GPU optimised software?

I wonder of we'll be able to get a 128GB machine in December?

For some of us this cost is normal.

I've had worse pricing with DELL and BOXX configs for Maya/Renderman.

Of course that was 5 years ago.

Looking forward to loading a few of these TUBES soon ;)

For me too. I own over one hundred Mac Pros from the very first models up to 5.1. I LOVE everything from the form and the stability. The price has always been and will continue to be HIGH! Don`t ask what my electricity bill is. I use them as animation/render/fx workstations 98% of them running windows.

There was a heated debate in this thread about how cheap these would be. There was NO evidence to that effect. Some people thought Apple was turning over a new leaf...there was NO evidence to support it. They thought the Mac Pro was positioning itself as a Mac Mini Pro...NO evidence to that effect.
