Mac vs. Windows...

Mac.

Anybody doing a running total here? I'm estimating about 50% Mac/40%PC/10%Linux, when accounting for multiple users.

Mac. This obviously is going somewhere. The question is where? so... where are we going with this? Is RED trying to convince Mac of coming up with special power Munster? If not, please do try. We all know we need it!

Mac. I've never had a good long term experience with Windows only short bursts of "wow, that was nice" followed by utter disappointment. Sure, Macs have their short comings but overall they have been good to me since my switch ~10 years ago. (My first Mac, a PowerMac G5 just won't die).

Went Mac before Mac was cool, never looked back, not a Final Cut X fan, still working in Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, CS6.

Won't go to a PC, even if Mac Pro's never are updated. Although I'm hoping that we will get a proper updated tower sometime this year. Everything is working just fine on my system for now.

Definitely Mac household, we have 8 Mac's in our home.

Just about everyone in our house has a mac desktop AND a mac laptop AND an iPhone AND an iPad. We like Apple products. And we all do creative stuff with Adobe products.

I wish Adobe had Creative Cloud Family Pack... $79 per month or something... HELLO ADOBE, are you listening?

Waiting in vain?

Waiting in vain?

Mac since 1986. But am trying to decide between a Hackintosh or buying a PC outright, sometime this year. That should say something, Apple...
Apple may not care or may not be listening. But it's kind of nice that Jim is....

In this rapidly growing thread Meryem's post stood out. It's been the core of my frustration with how Mac has treated the pro/creative market - many of whom, like me, have been on MAC for 20+ years. As financially successful as Apple has become you have to wonder why they wouldn't continue to support high end hardware, even if it didn't generate much net revenue, just for the halo effect if nothing else.

PR disaster. People whom others looked up to for their digital media skills typically praised MACs and used them to make amazing things. Now, most of those same people - like many of us on this forum - gnash their teeth in frustration when Apple/MAC is mentioned due to the outdated workstation hardware - AND - perhaps even more critically, the lack of any predictable road map that allows decision makers to rationally plan purchase/upgrade cycles, which, by extension, handicaps budgeting. Business/Accounting fail.

From a business is war perspective, wouldn't Apple's cash hoard allow them to sell workstations at a nickel over cost until most of their competitors went under, then own a market segment that might save their tail if their CE devices division hit a rough patch someday? Just sayin', their underlying strategy escapes me - and if they don't have an underlying strategy for the pro/creative market, that's even more troublesome.

MAC MAC MAC - for whomever is counting.

Hey Blair, it's called being a public company and being measured by profit margin....

M A C ... Limitations? Yes. But its usability and stability is unparalleled. Plus, it fells like Red.

I prefer to use my Mac but I have to do serious work on pc..

Apple and their Pro user base: It's like a pathological relationship gone bad between dysfunctional lovers... but you stay anyway because the sex is still good.

Hee hee, that's funny, but I will say this about "Windows Sex". It's quicker, but not nearly as enjoyable. She often has a headache, and says no. You have to make deals to get it the way you want it. The relationship comes with a ton of baggage from other relationships, and you always have to use protection ;-)

For me, Macs are better looking, more dependable, not as high maintenance, easier to get along with and clear of STDs. And yeah, the sex is good.

both

last week i started building my first Hackintosh the boards are there if not they will be coming (projectQ: Z77MX-QUO-AOS)

Haswell will have a new socket design interested to see how that works out...

There's enough options to keep everyone happy

can you guys make a 5.25 Reader? It would look sick on this build.

My Laptops will always be Apple and Desktops from here on out are dual-bootable hacked i7 G5.

You're a funny man...

Mac, but if they dont do some tower replacement soon I will after many years jump ship.

Between the disaster which is FCPX, Avid's financial issues and slow manner to catch up to the industry....for a longtime mac poweruser, Lightworks on Linux is looking appealing.

MAC but I'm having a very hard time staying with Apple. If they don't hurry up and bring out a new killer Mac Pro I'm gone for a very long time.
Apple also doesn't seem to understand that the Pros also have a lot of other Apple stuff in their private life. I'm having around 9 Apple products within my family but I'm willing to drop everything and not update it if Apple doesn't get their shit together and delivers me what I need in my Pro life to feed my family.
This sounds a little dramatic but I'm really fed up with Apple.....and I earn my living with their products for the last 13 years and was a Mac fan ever since.:undecided:
It's a shame.
Tim

Amen.

PC until someone comes up with an ultra scalable unit that sits next to my HVAC unit in the basement that I can throw all of the CPU's, GPU's, and RAM sticks from my old computers into. Ultimate usable recycling to get away from a disposable electronics industry. True obselecence obsolete!
