Texas User Group Meeting during TAB in August here in Austin?

I see three quick positive responses to Omega hosting a Texas RED user group meeting.

I wonder if we should plan something for the evening of August 6th (after the Texas Association of Broadcasters convention trade show) here in Austin.

That seems like a great way to make the most of anyone traveling to Austin in the region - and Omega always has a presence at the show.

Further thoughts?

That would be pretty great timing. We are in the busy season so it makes sense to target Redusers that would be coming into the city anyways. The last time we had one it was at the Alamo Drafthouse on Slaughter Ln, and we all delivered materials to view and discuss things we have shot on their 4K projector. It was a lot of fun seeing the talent we have all around us. Do you guys have a screen to facilitate a similar experience? I'll try to pop in soon anyways. I've got to grab some lenses for a production next week and you guys are pretty competitively priced.

We could screen something here, though we currently don't have a 4K projector in our current inventory. We do have a 65" 4K display. I may be able to obtain a loaner 4K projector from one of our manufacturers like Sony for this event.

I'm also exploring having a Weapon to demo for everyone at this event. By August, this should be possible.

You know we would show up in droves to see a weapon in action. At least I would be stoked to get some hands on time before I can afford the upgrade. John Aldrich put together the first RU group. It may be worth talking to him to see if he has any suggestions or contacts for sponsors. I would really love to see an ACES workflow demo too. I haven't had a chance to explore that from cam to DIT and see how it would follow through post production, though I have talked to some of the reps there about how that would work. I'm just spitballin' here until someone else chimes in :-)

Great point about John Aldrich, Drew. In fact, I just reached out to him after reading your post and he sounds like he is in for helping me host the event.

Aww, thanks Drew! OK, y'all, it's looking like we're going to do this early August at Omega. We're currently exploring ideas for topics for discussion/presentation but feel free to bring up something you'd like to see in this thread. I've suggested a lens comparison demo, a look at Red' current lineup of cameras, a color workflow demo, data and how to handle it safely from set to delivery/archival, and moving the camera (dollies, sliders, gimbals, drones). But those are just suggestions! If you've got something you'd like to see, post it!

And apologies to everyone that it's been so long since the last one, and big ups to Allan for kicking me in the ass to get this one going!
 
Hi Everyone -- OK, the meeting will be at Omega Broadcast this Thursday, August 6th at 7 PM after the TAB Show! Topics of discussion will include working with a colorist, lenses and their characteristics, data handling from set to archive, and a look at RED's current lineup. Hope to see you there!

Sorry we'll miss you this time, Jake -- but busy's good! We'll do another one soon, definitely sooner than the interval between the last one and now... I'd like to open up the thread to topics that folks would like to see covered. I'm open to topics here...
 
Any plans for another Red Usergroup meeting in Austin this coming spring?
 
I'm upgrading to weapon magnesium. Hopefully will get my notice soon
