  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The AC power adapter that comes with the Epic has a captive cable on the end that ties into the converter and a Lemo 1B 6-pin F on the end that goes into the camera, as below:

Give me a few minutes and I'll try to get some closeups of the lemo end of that cable and of the male 1B 6-pin jack on the camera.

There's a short cable that connects the camera and the V-lock plate if I remember correctly.

Edited: It may have been a pigtail.

Well, both batteries were dead on my Canon, so I had to make due with a cellphone. This is the clearest I could get it. What you see is the male camera jack and in the very lower right the 1B 6-pin F pigtail on the end of my 3rd party (Switronix/x) battery plate. I don't have the RED cable you mentioned but the ends would obviously correspond to what you see here.

Hien, while we're on the subject, I meant to bring this up before. Since the Epic/Scarlet uses the 1B 6-pin, how much trouble would it be to offer an option for that interface for the main power feed through to the camera platform instead of the 2-pin? That way, those of us who do use smart batteries would be able to retain that functionality for the cameras.

I can make connector no problem, but the problem is the smart battery got "dumbed down" through the slipring and battery data has been lost. We then have to go through the whole loop of R&D and recustomize the slipring, which took me a loooooong time and mucho dinero. We have special mold for the slipring to make it work and for our current system. It's the heart of the clean design of the Helix.

Can't speak for others but I would be satisfied with just a through connection to supply power to the gimbal motors and the camera, simultaneously, with the proper camera cable. Would be nice to have that camera cable included, or at least available for purchase at a reasonable cost.

I am looking at the options to get the battery integrated into the Helix. There are a few options here.
1. 25mm x 75mm x 70mm 3400 mAh at 4S (14.8V) 0.6lbs
2. 50mm x 75mm x 70mm 6800 mAh at 4S (14.8V) 1.2lbs

I am thinking of doing option 2 because 3400mAh wouldn't cut for both the board and the camera. Since you already take the power input, the camera either has to be self power (which will in turn add even more weight), or tap and share the power with the board.

I would vote for the bigger battery. You could probably get a better cost on these than we could as well...

Then you could almost run a industry standard V-mount 68WH amount 1.16lbs 150 mm x 102mm x 36mm. (Global media pro example).
But if it is a neat nice integrated solution... I don't care.

Looks like DJI is using the 3400mAh and powering only their gimbal motors for 4 hours

But you still need to factor in the size mass bulk and weight of the battery plate for V or AB mount...

Hienle , How many contacts are on the slip ring ? Separate ones for higher amperage ?

Well, obviously retaining smart battery function is out, but it would be GREAT to still have the six pin connector both at the top and back of the Helix (with smart battery functions lost in the slipring) so that I don't have to buy more expensive lemo cables. The pigtail on my Switronix/WC V-mount plate has the proper connector for the Epic already (and I also have a 2-foot 4-pin XLR with an Epic compatible lemo on the other end), so would be nice to be able to leverage those for the belt battery option without buying new cables.

I suspect that new cables will be the order of the day for many (most?) users, no matter the final decision.

I paid my $795 last week. What happens now?
