Depends on what you mean by package. For a scarlet fixed configuration (you charge it up, you pick it up and you use it). $2000 to $5000 dollars based on spec. Lots of extra gear more. s35 more, plus lens prices.

Find me any other camera that shoots 3k video at 120 FPS for under $5k. That speaks nothing else to the loads of other reasons to buy RED.

Who has 15k to burn on a camera package lol, especially for web video distribution LOL... Not in this economy, We really hope it's not that high because We might as well have bought a red one a long time ago lol just our opinion =) lot's of LUV RED =)

It would be ok for a Super35 interchangeable system, but with a fixed lens for $15k, it would not be better than the competitors which have interchangeable 2/3" systems

People with 10-15k mark are expecting Epic specs in scarlet ... I think scarlet will not have anything extra feature that epic dont have ...

If you only every deliver to Web, why do you *need* Scarlet?

I don't want to sound patronizing or as a person that want's to increase the Scarlet's price - I would like to share my view. The view-point that is sort-of coming more from the reason center than from the heart center.
I see people calling for a 6K package price as thinking more from the heart center. (actually, I'm writing this to silence my "heart center" thinking :-)

Now, why do I think that the specs have changed/improved?

While using the Scarlet with the known price/specs would blow me away - reading the same known specs on Nov 3rd would definitely NOT blow me away. I would assume this is valid for a majority.
Would anyone agree this quoted post doesn't make much sense if the Scarlet specs don't improve?

Why do I think the price will change?

You should read it several times!!
Why would anyone be frustrated with improved specs. Two possible reasons:
- DELAY - there were enough post about delay so I'm sure this one isn't talking about that
- PRICE INCREASE - I remember a lot of frustration whenever there was a price increase (i.e. HDRx introduction), mainly by the ppl for whom the price increase put the Scarlet out of the reach.
(We'll, there were also those frustretees' insecure in theirs creative capabilities which wanted to keep the gap (HDRx) between Scarlet and EPIC AHAP (Huge), but they are irrelevant in this story:-)

Other posts could also be used as examples but these two are enough to present my view.
Therefore I'm personally preparing for the price increase to avoid any disappointment/bitterness on the Nov3rd. I propose you all try to think about this.
I don't want to speculate on the final package price or specs (I done it enough times already) but I'm sure the specs&price will go up Nov 3rd.

This might be me not thinking fairly but I don't think they would say Embrace price change...That doesn't seem like something RED would say or do.

I'm not saying I don't think there will be a price increase, But I don't think they would tell us that way. I read it more as, something in the camera changed, as many were set with what was there before, and wants people to embrace the change. He's never mislead us so far. So I'll embrace a change. Obviously I think there will be a price increase, but I don't think they would ask us to Embrace paying more money. They read what people say, they know the general opinion of what people are looking for and hoping for. They've tracked the Scarlet's crowd for 3+ years. They know better than any of us where and how it should be priced. I trust a vast majority of us will be very happy come the 3rd of November.

Well, I don't think you want a camera for 15k for web distribution. For that there are a lot of capable cameras, even at 1k. I think Scarlet is aimed at something else. And 10k to 15k for a lot more than HD, hdrx, redcode raw, variable compression and more is fair enough. I think it's gonna be in the 9k to 11k range for a nice package but I could be wrong. Either way, if the price is up I bet you the specs are up as well. Let RED do their thing.

After reading your post twice I see your point. I agree that Jim didn't plan to warn about the price increase - it was all ME speculating :-). But if we follow your line of thought and imagine that the post in question doesn't have anything to do with price but only spec change - what is there left to possibly frustrate someone? (adding features but keeping the price would make us all happy) What could have happened to the Scarlet that wouldn't increase the price? All I can think of is that the fixed lens has been dropped. If only this happened without any other changes I wouldn't call that improvement or blow away change if you wish. My strong feeling is that whatever spec change happens to the Scarlet it will have an unfortunate consequence on the pricing.

Everyone is speculating at this point.

I honestly have no idea what could be frustrating. Maybe the wait? Because they did announce a date, but there was a wait for it...So maybe the wait was frustrating. I could see the fixed lens being something scrapped, as they have said something that seemed like a good idea 3 years ago may not be anymore. But then again who knows. We'll all find out. I know the frustrating thing for me is going over to Recon and being teased lol.

I love RED but man, I hate being teased about something before I get it. Like your a kid and your parents tease you before Christmas...yup just like that. But I know how it is, I have a wife who I regularly surprise and do the same thing and make her wait. She calls this my payback haha.

You misunderstood us , we where saying that most ppl not just us on here will never see the light of a movie theater or a 4k screen and most ppl web distribute so why pay 15k for a camera for that kind of work? Let's be real most ppl on here just web distribute that is all we where saying don't get all mad lol, it's just I have seen ppl buy an Epic and only do web videos, seems like a waste of money, yeah dynamic range is awesome and no doubt RED is Excellent! But come on just for web shorts? Most ppl that want a scarlet have been using dslr up until this point from what we have read, that's all we where saying if u can spend 15k make sure u get work that makes ur investment worth it =)=)We luv u all =)

I think it depends. In my field I'd say 1/5 of what I shoot goes to DVD in action sports movies. 4/5 of it goes to my online reel. But at the end of the day, having a camera with that ability will greatly enhance your shots with the features the camera has.

I look at it as a stepping stone. We all start somewhere. You might start out with stuff on youtube, and someday end up with movies in theaters. You can only go as far as you push yourself. Why not give yourself the best tool at the time being to be successful and make progress forward? I've spent well over 5K for my 7D kit, I'll spend well over 16K for my Scarlet kit I'm sure (starting out) and I'm proud too. Sure most might end up on the web. But let's be honest it's a great method of delivery for even full movies on Itunes.

It takes away the cost of hours spent producing DVD's, Replicating, Case Costs, having to have someone Encode it for DVD, DVD costs, and gives you more back, and is more available to the consumer. It also saves shipping/transportation costs.

Maybe this is just the reality in my line of work, but in the end I see streaming and online being the main delivery format. Even to theater's in some cases it could be a digital file.

My feelings exactly, and then there's no Christmas for 2 years :-) But seems like Santa finally got our letters.

I have no real numbers to go on, but if Scarlet gets up and running on the line I think 160-200 cameras in a standard work week is possible given a moderate team.

If so, some could perhaps end up waiting in a backorder line for a year or so. With Jim's focus on customers, I really hope this wont be the case! RED - please tell me that you have 40K of these in stock waiting to ship! :D

I'm still hoping that on November 3rd RED will announce not one camera but a line of cameras under the SCARLET name, and this line would consist of at least two options. And that ex-SCARLET S35/current EPIC-S will be among these options.

That's why my vote is for "over 11K"

My thinking exactly. If I buy a Scarlet it will be to shoot a feature with picture quality fit for a big screen, otherwise I can use video cameras for the web.

Unless ur gonna shoot for a studio and make ur investment back 15k is too much money for any camera, but I highly doubt it's gonna be a camera that was supposed to be 6k and all of a sudden a 9k price increase????? I have a hard time seeing this come to pass I think it will be 6k as originally price earlier this year

For pricing guestimates on Scarlet, everyone should look at the opposition’s pricing. Pany 100 $5K with out lenses, F3 $14K without lenses, Canon rumoured digital camera’s $6K upto $15K without lenses. Now Scarlet will undoubtedly be a best seller with better specs. It’s sights are firmly fixed on “professionals not soccer mums ”, same markets or higher as Sony F3 & Canon’s new offerings are targeting. So given what the opposition are charging for their camera’s & specs do you really think you will be able to buy a full functioning, higher rez. & better spec’d Scarlet for 6K?

I'm really hoping for a low spec future proof model that you can shoot straight out of the box with. Any Red is better than no RED which is what I'll have if the prices is over $5k.
