Alright, so I've been lurking for a while now and must say, you guy's got a nice community here.
Greatest thing is that there's actually guys from Red on this board, which is awesome since
this is where they should get customer feedback from.

Anyway.. there's been a long discussion on what the price of the Scarlet will be in many threads,
let's do a prediction thread! Vote for the amount of money you think (not hope, think!) a basic
shooting setup will cost.

On November 3rd, we will find out if the majority is right..

Personally I think it'll be between 7k and 9k, they've probably added a lot more stuff since the last time they announced the configuration..

BUT.. also with the new production line they can assemble a Scarlet a lot faster, meaning less manhours per Scarlet, meaning cheaper Scarlets.
Anyway, ofcourse this is a total guess since I have no clue what Jim has in store for us. But it'd be nice to see how close we can get to the
actual price.

7K for 2/3 4K Scarlet including redmote and side handle.

I think it should be around 6k as Ted from red said. Without sdd drive

Hi all, not meaning to stir the pot but I think this is exactly what Jim was so deflated about the other night.

Everyone proclaims their hopes and expectations of what Scarlet should be, and they aren't always realistic.

A lot has changed since numbers and specs were thrown around and I suggest we all just wait and see the reality on Nov 3.

I don't have a clue where the price will end up, but I'm convinced that whatever it is, we will get more than we are paying for.

+1.

Let's not........see Jim's "Expectations" thread in Recon.

I don't think speculating on price is what Jim was talking about in the "Expectations" thread. He's talking about wild, unrealistic expectations i.e. 4k, S35 sensor etc. It's not too much too expect that the Scarlet will be priced somewhere close to Ted's last rough estimate of 6k. This poll starts at 5k and goes beyond 11k. It will surely fall between these two price points, so what's wrong with finding out where people believe it will be priced?

My thoughts exactly, thanks.

I also deliberately emphasized "think" instead of "hope", I'd like people to leave their expectations and think rationally about what this could/should cost (even though the price will probably be extremely low for what we're going to get).

The shooting 'Kit' will settle around 15K. It's seems reasonable to get away from the 2008 pricing matrix. That was a long time ago. The expectation of the camera requires it to stay competitive for at least several moons, so hence the slightly bolder pricing to support the stronger feature set amongst it peers. The camera feature set will be a killer value at the price point, but will not be in the imaginary realm of cheapness.

Just my thoughts:)
as well as Epic, at least at first, Scarlet will be available in package only,
so if body alone will be around $6K, the rest we'll pay for the monitor, media, batteries etc;
just look at the price difference between M Pack and M package, what, about $15K, and those are the same accessories that will be included in the Scarlet package;
I hope Red will circumcise that set for the Scarlet down to $6-7K, so all in get ready to dish out about $15K in couple weeks :)
Ted is my favorite!

On time, exceed customer expectations, on budget.

Underpromise, overdeliver at $6K for basic Scarlet kit...

This expectation has been established for last year, no?

Unless camera is now 3D, 4K or larger sensor... ;)

Unlikely in my opinion.. The package contains 4 SSD's, 4 Red Volts, BOMB EVF and titanium PL mount. I don't think that'll be added to a Scarlet package.
Besides I also think the Scarlet will be priced for small production studio's (the first Scarlet announcement put it in prosumer range). $15K is a bit much
for a small production studio like mine.

As far as a package deal, I'd take it if it included just a memory module (CF or SSD), sidehandle, 5"screen. The rest I want to figure out myself.
I'd rather use Red Bricks than Red Volts and I'll be fine operating the screen with just the sidehandle (no redmote needed).

As many said before. A $15K Package would already be in the epic/one target group. All the new customers coming from DSLRs or FS100/AF100 would be left out.

i don't know whats wrong with people with above 7k price point .. when ted said working kit will be around 6k ... So what is with 11k and above ? If you can afford above 11k go for epic OR red one .. much more features & Resolution

6k for fixed lens scarlet

11k if there is scarlet has interchangeable lens / 4k res ... or Scarlet ONE as red one replacement

IF we are holding to Ted 's NAB comment as reference, the camera on display was a 3K prototype. The suggested price mentioned was 6K give or take (lets error on the GIVE side). Fair enough.

But equally if the vision has changed and the camera now has a larger sensor, is 6K still a reasonable price?

A larger sensor would ofcourse make it more expensive, but don't forget their new productionline.. I think they're cutting costs with that.
I just hope they'll stick around the 5-7k price range, and viewing the comments in this thread, many are with me..

If the sensor size increased, there would be no fixed lens.
They surely invested a lot of money in the developement of this lens and there is a big market for a 2/3" fixed lens camcorder recording 3k.

There will be a fixed Scarlet.

Question is, if there will be a second scarlet with larger sensor...

@M.Halsell

I agree..

but how large sensor you are talking about? if sensor is 35mm (equivalent) and shots 4k-5k res then what will happen to EPIC?

I would love to see EPIC for 11k .. But is it possible?
