To speed up the process of lens changing, is it possible to use a Nikon-to-PL Mount (with a lens for back focus) rather than the Red Nikon Adapter? Will the quality be the same?
In other words, I have some cine lenses with PL mounts, and Nikon still lenses, and I want the ability to change back and forth without having to take the RED lens port apart.
Thanks.

Real name dude.

No such thing as far as my searches have gone. The fact is, if a nikon lens was just attached to an adapter on top of the PL mount the lens would be to far from the sensor per the way nikon lens' are designed, thus creating back-focus and other problems.

Youu just have to grab an alan-wrench everytime.

Gee, sorry to be such a bother Zakaree. I'm not as perfect as you are, and since I'm VERY new to all this, I'm still in the process of learning this website.

My question was NOT sufficiently answered anyway. The Nikon-to-PL Mount adapter I have HAS a lens for back-focus. My question was; ".....will the quality be the same?"

Thanks to all those who are not so easily "bothered".

As soon as you add an extra piece of glass (optical adapter behind or in front of your lens), the quality cannot as good as using your 'bare' lens directly on the camera.

Besides loosing some light and multiplying your original focal length you will "magnify" any abberation the original nikon lens might have.

A quick search brought back this great thread, where all your questions (and more) might be answered :

Thank you VERY much, Mikael. You're very kind to take the time to help me out. I understand the logic behind it, and will therefore, NOT use an adapter. The work we do is too precise to risk loss of quality.
Thanks again.
