  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LEICA R on RED: Pictures

I have a bunch of R's and love the look of them...- use them more than my Cooke5's...

I did have an issue on my last shoot with purple fringing around the highlights on my 90 wide open w bright window in background-....- anyone have this issue? I guess it is a combo of the CA of the lens and the dragon...- I have never seen it when I shoot with Mini...

Thanks

If it's what I think you're talking about chromatic aberration/some flares is out of the color gamut when shooting Dragon Color 2 so it produces oversaturated purples/exaggerates CA
Like Tommaso said change to Dragon Color 1 but you can also use REDWideGamutRGB

Hi guys, i just received my scarlet w, i have a kit of leica r, what adapters do you use to ef mount and where can i buy them in europe ? Thanks in advanced :)

You can order Leitax adapters from Spain (leitax.com) for each lens as a good/solid hard mount solution.

Whereas I've found Novoflex adapters to be the best temporary/removable ones.

No- I will try that...

Hey Guys!

This little thread has crept up to almost 200,000 views! Keep up the great work folks.

Up until recently hadn't used Leica R 15s much and have been pleasantly surprised how well they render with great colors, etc.
So had to try out both 15mm 3.5 and the newer 15mm 2.8 asph side-by-side... but am now having trouble deciding which to keep.
Am planning to test 2 of each in various environments, etc. and can post some results if there's any interest.

Here's the glass side-by-side. Was expecting the 15 3.5 to be much larger but they're actually very similar in size.

If you want to sell one... ;)

So far I'm loving both 15s. Of course the 2.8 asph is optically 'better' especially in the outer regions but both have great character and colors. What surprised me most is how much detail is retained given such a wide focal length. Flare is great too! At the moment I have 2 LR sets, an early '80s for vintage character and a late 90s for a more modern/sharper look and these respective 15s seem to fit in quite nicely.

Hope to post 5 and 6k Epic Dragon samples soon and perhaps 8k Epic-W a little later.

Guillaume, I picked up 2 of each (which is helpful to rule out copy variation for testing) so I'll touch base when at least 1 of each is available in case you're interested.

anyone has experience with 90 summicron, which series should i look out for?

Personally I like and have used early 70s versions up to the late 1990s apo asph, and for different reasons.
Which you should look for will depend on factors like matching with other Leica Rs, budget considerations and personal preference.

How much will the look drift between lenses?
My initial plan was to keep everything above 290xxx.

I am about to have:

50/2 291xxx
28/2.8 278xxx

and probably getting a 35/2 324xxx.

Kind of confused whether I should go for what most people are favouring (240xxx) or get a later one (313xxx) just to matching purposes.

The further apart, the more your colors will drift. Believe me, I know it can take a while but if you have the time/patience I recommend keeping everything within the two you already ordered (between 278... and 29...). If not, just try to get as close as you can. Also curious where you see most people favouring the 90 #240... as I haven't come across that.

Hi guys, how are you ~? I am habing some problems with my Leica R kit, i bought an adapter for ef mount and use them on the scarlet w, i can't focus to infinity, anyone know how to solve this ? Thanks ;)

Sounds like your lenses need to be collimated Filipe. This is a common issue but a good lens tech can recollimate them. Just make sure to find someone with experience working with Leica Rs too.
