LEICA R on RED: Pictures

Hi Kristopher and Christian, thank you for your responses,
Kristopher: I am currently using old gear: an One MX. Ah is the 28mm not wide enough? I was looking at the 19mm, but it ended up getting quite pricey for my budget! I could potentially get one if it really needed be! Yeah I was thinking about that in regards to the 50mm and 60mm, however, I was mainly getting the 60mm for closer shots i.e. extreme close ups of writing on paper, chalkboards etc. (its an education project). If I got a Cron 35mm in lieu of a Lux (mainly for economic reasons) do you reckon it'd make a huge difference?

Christian: Did you feel that you got enough extreme wide shots and extreme close-ups?

For a starter set I got the 28+50+90. If you know your lens-range you can plan your pictures. Of course sometimes you need the 19mm. Not that often the 135mm. If you want extreme close ups you need the 100mm macro.

Wahab, I think you would be happier with a 19mm or a 24mm. The 28 is a very nice lens. Just not really wide. I use extension tubes when I do extreme closeup/macro work. The 50mm and 90mm would be the ones I would round out your 3 lens set with. The 90mm Summicron focuses down to less than 18 inches. So, that is pretty handy.

Christian and Larry: I feel you are both in unison! I may take this as a sign! Ahaha! I will definately get a Lux 50 and a Cron 90 then (Larry do you have any recommendations in terms of which extension tubes to use?). Now comes the 19mm or 24mm decision, unfortunately this might be governed by price rather than choice!
Guys thank you so much! I shall definitely post when I actually get my lenses!

Wahab, you also may want to consider the 50 Cron instead of 50 Lux which is very good too and may match your 90 a bit better.

Then put the savings to work on your wide.

Hi Mark! Oh okay? I probably wouldn't use the 1.4 aperture heavily to be honest. Yeah that could definitely work!

Okay, a Cron 50 it is! Ah yes, I am going to have to do the same with mine Larry, I have the Nikon adapter.

I do have a question, which Cron 50 should I go for, in terms of serial?

Leitax makes really nice Nikon F mounts that replace the Leica R mount. Picking the correct version can be tricky. So, I just sent my lenses to Duclos and had them remount the lenses, de-click the iris and add a focus gear. When I get the lens back, I know everything will work perfectly.

Oh no, sorry Larry I think I mis-phrased that! I meant what version of the 50mm Cron should I get When I look at the Leica website they give me a load of options!

This is a rather personal/subjective decision imo (more vintage vs more modern, etc.) but I recommend doing your best to match SN#s of all 3 as close as possible for consistent colors.

AHHHHH okay! Thanks Mark, so just look as though they start with the same two number i.e. 24xxx or 36xxx, and then have them all match that way?

Right, and a couple things to keep in mind are the prices jump the later they are. And the earlier they are the more likely they'll require servicing. Personally I don't like to go much older than #29... as older ones are more likely to come with permanent damage including scratches, deep haze, fungus, etc.

That 24mm is expensive...can be found cheaper...

BTW guys I'm selling some Leitax Leica-R to Nikon bayonets/adapters I no longer need now, PM me if interested!

Ah yeah, you're right! I found some at like £360! Thanks for the shout Tommaso!

How do you mean Christian? Does it just not cover the Red MX sensor, or...?
