  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LEICA R on RED: Pictures

One more thing,David:
I have adapted all men Leica-S to 80mm front ring. I cannot see how the connection to the lockcircle works. Do I need to have a threated adapter ring for every single lens its its original diameter ?

Thanks again, Carsten

I think Lock circle makes an internal 80mm diameter ring (it comes with a 95mm) I do think they have the 80mm version as well. I made one on my makerbot a while before they ever had the 80mm version available.

Hi guys, i am new to this forum, i am not a red user, i am a Sony User, and i work with my A7rII and just sold my FS7 after 6 months. I really like the IQ of the A7RII with the CD ODYSSEY 7q+, and i am have a lot of gigs with it. I already have a 35,50 and 90 Summicron, my question right now is What to get next for my Lens kit ? The 24mm 2.8 ? the 19 v1 ? or the 28mm 2.8 ? Thanks and keep the good work, i really love this thread ;)

Second version if you can swing it, but first version is strongest of the 3 though closest to your 35 focal length. Personally I prefer 19 v1 over 24mm. 19 v2 is great but the priciest in that focal range.

So The 24 is that bad ? Whats wrong with it ? Is like you said The 28 is really close to 35.

Filipe, all leica R lenses are very good, it's just that 24 is the least stellar one (from your list)
I personally found out that for my work 24mm is definitely needed, as the jump from 19 to 28 is a bit too much. I am looking for the very late production 24mm ROM lens.
I've checked it's MTF chart and for S35 frame it should be quite close to 28mm v2. On full frame edges are weak.
Leica MTF charts don't lie, i've learned this many years ago.

That's right, its all relative. The 24mm isn't bad at all and really not that much different than the 28mm v1. And the late 24 rom versions do seem a bit sharper. Something to watch for though is most 24s (especially earlier ones) have tight and often inconsistent focus throws. I normally have them CLAd, which adds a few hundred to the cost.

Love the 28mm v2. And despite being closer to the 35mm, it does buy you a decent amount of FOV without being quite as distorted as the wider 24mm. Plus on Dragon 6k, or Sony FF35, 28 is quite wide. But it depends on what you like to use and the intended application. Not an inexpensive addition to a set, though...

Just bought a set of Summicron's from Mark M. Look forward to uploading some screen grabs. Love the look.

Great Simon – looking forward to it!

You can upload pictures when you make a post or you can also place them on an FTP site and post them via a URL.

The first kind come up as pop up boxes in your post, the second type is embedded into the post itself.

If you need some pictures hosted I am happy to help out.

Hi Carsten,

I've had all mine modded to 95mm Fronts and use the Prime Circle Matbox, which is build to use with telescoping lenses. https://www.lockcircle.com/matbox/ Compact and very tough piece of kit, have had it in my bag for a few years now. The Bright tangerines were not available yet and the model I was looking at, the rods did not clear the bottom of the matbox, with this one I rarely have to change rods, even on the longer lenses.

David
Hey David,

Thanks to you and everyone contributing to this great thread. I've been slowly reading my way through the whole thread over the last month and now made it to page 105. Awesome stuff!

I had a question about the MatLock. This looks like a great product. I looked at the website and watched the promo video but I'm still curious as to how it actually works.

Does it need a FF to work? And if so, is the FF unit driving the matte box movement? And do you have to modify, or add something to, the front of the lens for it to work?

Thanks.

BTW: You've all really inspired me, so I started building a collection. Got a 28/2.8, 35/2.8, 50/2 and 180/4. They are off with a lens tech being de-clicked while waiting for Leitax mounts to arrive. Looking to get a 90/2.8 and possibly a 19/2.8 to round out the collection.

Maybe we could organize a GB on this one. I'd consider converting all of mine back from Nikon if we could get 10-20 on a GB. I can contact the manufacturer if anyone is interested.

David
Yep, I'm interested. I've already purchased a bunch from David at Leitax, but I'm still looking to get more. They are simply rock solid and a beautifully simple solution.

EDIT: I just realised you probably weren't talking about the Leitax, but the ciesio7 adaptor.
