  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LEICA R on RED: Pictures

Thanks David! It is amazing how light the rig is now with the Weapon and these Leicas. Super compact. I am also really excited to be able to shoot at ISO 2000 cleanly now and use the 2.8 lenses in lower light:)

Hey Guys!

New to the boards but loving this thread. I started using the Leica R's a few years ago as rentals. I recently purchased a set for myself and couldn't be happier. These are stills from awhile back. 35 Summilux on Epic MX if I recall correctly.

Hi Carsten,

I've had all mine modded to 95mm Fronts and use the Prime Circle Matbox, which is build to use with telescoping lenses. https://www.lockcircle.com/matbox/ Compact and very tough piece of kit, have had it in my bag for a few years now. The Bright tangerines were not available yet and the model I was looking at, the rods did not clear the bottom of the matbox, with this one I rarely have to change rods, even on the longer lenses.

keep 'em coming!

I got some Leica Stills to share, but stupid me can't seem to figure out how to make pictures show up on RU like the ones above. Any clues?

You can host them from a website or flckr. But if you want I can host them for you from my server and send you the links.

It's finally 100% complete. Huge thanks to Mark M. for hooking it up with a few of them, most notably the 19mm! Bought my first lens back in October and went through many lenses to get the right serial numbers. Everything is finally within the 309 - 347 range, from 1982 to 1987.

19mm V1 f/2.8
28mm V1 f/2.8
35mm V2 f/2.0
50mm V2 f/2.0
90mm V1 f/2.0
135mm V2 f/2.8

hello David!
i just purchased set of R primes and have one question about lockcircle:
does it safety in terms of loading on internal mechanics of the lense?
i like this way of realization but have some questions wth it

Hi Sergey,

I would not use a clip on mattebox with the Leica R lenses that are cine-moded. This way the MB is loaded more onto the rods than the lens and most of the lenses do not telescope too much so it's not a huge issue.

David

Brian your set looks great! They always take more time and due diligence to get them just right, but always worth it in the end. Glad to help some along the way.

Cheers

You can try TLS (true lens service) in the UK. They do good work and a few people on this thread have had them modded there. This way the lenses stay in the EU and you might have less hassle than having them move in and out of the EU and the US.

The price is probably about the same. There is also RP lens service in Michagan in the US as well as Duclos in the LA area.

David

+1 for TLS. I've had all my lenses modded by them, they are brilliant.
