  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LEICA R on RED: Pictures

My 35-70 f4 is arriving today to complement my 80-200 f4.

I will report back on the 35-70.

We compared the 80-200 with an Angenieux 28-340 and it stood well in the test. There was a little more distortion to be seen in the Leica, but sharpness was very similar.

Great stuff guys.

I posted this in another thread, but this was shot on a mix of Leica R and RPP's. Maybe it will help you guys understand me (lunatic filmmaker) a bit better as well.

Yes, the 35-70 f4 macro seems to be the best (under $10k option:) in the mid-range and is parfocal. It renders a bit cleaner / more modern than most the LR primes but is sharp and cuts well with later samples.

The 35-70 is one of the best quality/price (I picked up mine for $350, but even at $800 it's still a great lense) leica zoom lense I ever had. I was searching a more efficient way to shoot holidays trip, switching between prime isn't what you want to do on the beach.

David, this is very inspiring to me. As one who mainly films architecture I love what you are doing and I too can appreciate a structure for the technological achievement it is. What a great tool in the Epic with which to archive the present and the past. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Thanks Adam,

I really only ever wanted to be an architect and I appreciate this particular building on so many levels.

Cheers,
David

David ,, Fantastic work. What a great story. As a Canadian recently relocated to London I completely understand your passion for the history and the architecture. Well done.

Still from my new film NAMING LEONARDO. Filmed in 3D 6k with the Dragons and Leica R's. This shot is with the extremely amazing 100mm 2.8.

Really Nice! I like the palette.

Thanks for posting Kirk!

Thanks David - Really appreciate that from you !

Just one little question pls. Who do you send your lenses to in Europe for cine mod or do you send them to Duclos?

You can try TLS (true lens service) in the UK. They do good work and a few people on this thread have had them modded there. This way the lenses stay in the EU and you might have less hassle than having them move in and out of the EU and the US.

The price is probably about the same. There is also RP lens service in Michagan in the US as well as Duclos in the LA area.

David

Thanks David - Infact I was thinking about TLS as well. Glad people are happy with their work. I'll wait for the last lenses to arrive and send them over then.

And one other question pls. Have you ever managed to cut the tokina 11-16 in while using the leicas. Just considering one for super wides as my widest lens is a 28. Or shall I just look for a good leica 19mm. The only thing is that it is a bit expensive and I built a set based around 1979/1980 so the 19mm in that era are version 1. Most people here would much rather use a version two so I am a bit unsure.

Not sure how the 11-16 intercuts with the Leica's I would opt for a vintage Nikon 24mm or 20mm as an option as well, until you can get your hand on a V2 19mm, which is the widest lens I really want to own.

David

Thanks David - Always helpful
